In order to get other quotes I wondered what she should put when they ask the amount of no claims bonus she has like with confused.com amd the like because she should have 5 years ncb but the renewal churchill have sent has 2 until claim is resolved. What amount should she put in when searching 5 or 2 as will they allow for this anyway when she declares the pending claim in any insurance quotes online?Thanx

She should only state 2 years ncd, (that is all she currently has), then explain the situation to her chosen company prior to buying the policy.
(Earlier you said your daughter had "over 5 years" NCD. When downgrading after a claim you lose 2 years (none gets awarded for the current year). She should drop down 2 years (from the max of 5) for this claim, making her current level 3 years, not 2). Ask her insurer why she now just has 2.0 -
I checked last years insurance sept 2009-sept 2010 and it says 4 years ncb and this years for 2010-2011 does say 2 years ncb, thanks for pointing that out will check with them in case they have made an error
Would it be that they dont include this year so it wouldnt go up to 5Thanx

None is added, for a year in which a claim is made.
So if she actually had just 4 years when the current policy year started, she would not have reached 5 years until the policy year ended without a claim being registered.
It seems the 2 years now showing on her renewal is correct, as she never has had the "over 5 years" mentioned in post #7.
But if the matter is concluded as a non fault claim, then her full NCD should be reinstated (ie she will then have 5 years awarded for the renewal date this year).0 -
Something very similiar happened to my wifes car recently, though the damage was more extensive, when Admiral sent the renewal they treated the renewal as if it was a fault claim, doubling the premium, I refunded the renewal and went to Swnton who where very helpful. Not sure about NCB as we have it protected. I was very happy with Admiral up till then, and had been with them for 5 years, their loss, Swintons gain.0

Did Swinton treat your quote as though your wife was not at fault and quote you on the correct amount of no claims then? If so it might be worth getting a quote from them. I thought that it was standard practise with all insurers to treat all claims as fault till copmpleteThanx

They treated the claim as not existing essentially, as we didn't actually claim, we went through the nightmare that is the non fault accident management company used by Admiral, Admiral stated that it would stay as a claim until the money was recieved from the third party, it wouldn't have been a problem if the accident had happened in the middle of the policy term. And Admiral confirmed this. It was to do with the claim being active at the time of renewal and showing on the internal system with Admiral, or so I was told.
NCB was irrelevant in our case as we have it protected, but we didn't accrue an extra years NCB, which was to be expected, even though technically we never claimed.
I have a feeling that the person in the OP's case wasn't insured, hence why they didn't inform the third party insurance company. I also think the OP's daughter will be faced with increased premiums because of this, completely unfairly, but when the entire issue is sirted she should get credited with her no claims, as she was not at fault, the 3rd party insurance will be legally obliged to pay for third party damage even if the driver wasn't covered they would then get the money back from the uninsured driver or possibly the person that allowed this other driver to drive the car.0 -
Oh it sounds complicated, all I know is the cars details came up on churchills screen they said it was her parents car thats all but I'm not sure if shes covered to drive it I just blummin well hope soThanx

No need to worry - as they have confirmed a policy was in force covering the car, it makes no difference to the outcome of your claim whether or not the driver was insured on the policy.0 -
The quotes for changing insurers are coming out really high on gocompare.com, a lot say they dont quote for imported vehicles. It is classed as an imported car isnt it as its made in germany? she could choose uk spec european import or other european import so she chose the uk spec one would that be right? Also she had metalic paint would this be classed as a modification non standard paint?
She put 2 years no claims and when it asked about any claims she put claim not settled as it was really the only option she had apart from if the claims are settled as fault or no fault. It asked is the claim occured on her most recent policy she ticked yes and approx how much the claim was going to be for, was this right? or should she have put zero as she wouldnt be claiming from her own insurers?Thanx
