Speed cameras "off"

To the OP, why are you so concerned about having the camera alerts removed by Garmin or whoever, you can switch the warning of your self within the menu on your Sat Nav.
To go slightly away form the OP, the cameras have been turned off, the reason is that they are obselete, expensive to run and pretty inafective, I'll bet they only actually catch perhaps 1% of all speeding motorists, the other 99% slow down then speed back up again, this is something you just can't get through the thick skulls of the road safety campaigners who are up in arms about the decission to switch them off. I wouldn't get your hopes up about OCC completely dumping the Safety Camera program altogether, I'll bet once money allows they will invest in the more up to date Average Speed systems. IIRC in a recent debate it was stated that since all cameras were turned off in Swindon a year ago there has been no increase in accidents.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

I am not at all concerned about removing camera alerts. I was enquiring whether alerts for cameras which no longer exist could be removed. Try to keep up.This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

Sure do! It shows when people tell me what my questions are about, also when they decide what type of driver I am, I could go on.This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

I did start to brake and was going to pull over until I was sure of what was going on until I saw cars coming opposite which meant the lights must of been on green which I confirmed by looking in my rear mirrors as I drove past. (lights still working on for the opposite direction)
What would the ticket situation be if the lights has been on red? Bearing in mind there was no actual lights on!
red light camera works off the red light so if the red lights are not on (ie bulb is blown) the camera won't be active.Nothing to see here, move along.0 -

Au contrerre Rodney. You pair seem intent on doing a charachter assinasion on Brianb without even realising he actully is the OP and clearly knows why he asked the question. He asked if it was possible to update the software, not ignore the speed limits.
Maybe you should base your replies on what was actually written, not on what you read into it?
:( I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Q1:
"Locally (Oxfordshire) speed cameras have been turned off, anybody know if that includes red light cameras? "
has been answered above (i agree with Judas et al.)
Q2:
"Also sat-nav speed warnings are now redundant, is it possible to modify the database in a Garmin Nuvi to reflect the new situation, or must we wait till Garmin gets round to an update? "
I reckon people relying on things like this really need to learn to drive. I learnt at 12... and the main theme that was rammed into my head from that age was 'all round observation' - if you've got tunnel vision and can only concentrate on the car 5yds in front of you, then you're endangering the lives of everyone else around you and are not going to react quickly enough if something should happen. And anyway, they are bright yellow bloody boxes, what's not obvious about them! Just turn off all warnings in your sat-nav, and look around when you're driving!0
