I couldn't do without my bike (ancient but well loved). It gets me to work and it cost nothing to run (well ok I did spend almost 3 times it's worth getting it fixed once but that was all worth it rather than manage without or get a new one). If I have to go on public transport more often than about once a week I realise how deeply antisocial I am in the mornings (in that I'm grumpy not that I take an axe to the other passengers).
I also have a weak spot for nice food and I don't like cutting down to the point of not having tasty things to eat so my food budgeting attempts never get down to impressive levels of some people on here. In fact I'm shocking as I was wandering round tesco's the other day stocking up on bogofs like a good moneysaver I thought I was doing really well but when I got to the checkout I'd still spent £40 quid on 3 days food! More training needed methinks. Only consolation is more clubcard points.MFi3 member 105 - MFW date Oct 2023 - 12 years 9 months more0 -
I can't do without Lush products (although will have to when my stash runs out... too expensive in the US, and not as good quality!), decent tea (Barrys over here, which is ironic because its Irish, otherwise Twinings Everyday), and as some one else said, expensive toilet paper. Cheap toilet paper is just nasty, and doesn't do the job and you seem to use double the amount so is a false economy anyway!0

I agree, esthomizzy- a bike is definitely the best way to travel for most journeys. I cycle to work whenever I can and if I have to drive the car instead for any reason I just don't feel the same all day! It gives you time to sort out your thoughts and prepare for the day instead of fuming at other drivers and sitting in a traffic jam. If it's raining I just slip into my groovy red cagoule and assume everyone who's pointing and laughing are just jealous!
Mind you - the thing I'd really miss would be red wine - my only vice (almost!)Up Jacob's Creek without a paddle!0 -

I didn't see the original post on toilet paper but I couldn't agree more. In fact it didn't even cross my mind as I would never buy rubbish toilet paper if my life depended on it.MFi3 member 105 - MFW date Oct 2023 - 12 years 9 months more0 -

Same here- it's MAC, Benefit, Urban Decay etc in my make-up bag. I think cheap make-up can be a false economy as it doesn't last long. My make-up lasts ages and I wear it every week day.Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24

Could not agree more with you.
I am sorry to say but must of what people say are must haves like Sky/mobile phone etc.
15-20 years where pretty much unheard of. People had fulfilled lives then. I personally would say much more fulfilled then they do now.
As consumerism has made people money grabbing and selfish and thinking about number one.
People find it strange that I have no telly. But is there a law that says I must have one. Same for a car and mobile phone.
Each to their own.

Couldn't agree more. I don't watch telly and would not be upset if I didn't have it anymore. I don't care about cars- don't even recognise half of the models- and drive hubby's car once in a blue moon as I can get everywhere I want by train, cycle or Shanks' pony. My friends are lucky that I get a company mobile with personal calls allowed- otherwise I wouldn't bother and they'd never be able to get hold of me.Debt at highest May 2006: £27,472.24
