30 somethings, i NEED your advice re Skincare

Options
Okay, i've just had to renew my Driving licence and am tottally shocked at how much i have aged, way more than the 10 years:eek:

Aside from the weight gain:mad: (which is being dealt with) my skin looks awful, i have deep lines either side of my nose and can honestly say i hate them.

Trouble is i suffered with acne in my 20's and although that has cleared now i still have oily skin on my t-zone and my skin is somewhat 'congested'. My skincare regime has not changed but it is obvious that it needs to.

It consists of in the morning
cream cleanser (boots own) with cotton wool
toner (boots own)
Aldi moisturiser

Same again at night but no moistriser
Once a week i use a clay mask and a facial scrub. I also use a blackhead sticky thing on my nose.

I am going to go down the botox root and have my eyebrows tattoed on, but funds do not allow atm.

I don't mind looking my age, (33) but i don't want to look older:( which i feel i do now.

So what's your skincare regime?? what products do you recommend??

    Hi Sharon

Have you read this thread about the oil cleansing method "What oil do you use for the "oil cleansing method"? (merged).

I do not have oily, congested skin so no recommendations sorry, I did notice that you do not moisturise at night this is when the skin repairs itself while we sleep.

In the morning I use a face wash, toner, serum, day moisturiser & eye gel.

At night I cleanse, toner, serum, night cream & an eye cream.

I exfoliate every couple of days and use a face mask once a week and snap open a vitamin E capsule and use this as my moisturiser in place of my normal night moisturiser. I buy the vitamin E capsules from the health shop very cheaply.

I find my skin has different needs in the Summer to the Winter and I adjust my serum & moisturiser accordingly.

I have in the past emailed companies and expressed that I was interested in trying their products and was sent samples which is a great way to try before investing in the full sizes.

  • Debbie, i did look at the ocm method but i wasn't convinced, i'll pop over there again and have another peek

I also read (somewhere!!) that moistrising at night doesn't allow skin to repair. What does the serum do??? I always assumed it was a moistriser, what are vitamin e capsules?? so many questions...

Sharon the serum is like a booster/extra moisturiser I use under my moisturiser, it is pre-blended by an aromatherapist and I buy it from Ebay, about £5.00 per bottle I used to pay £40.00 for my Decleor oils.

I knew a lovely old lady and she had fabulous skin, I asked her what her secret was and she said vitamin E capsules which she cut open and warmed in her hands, then applied like a moisturiser to her face.

I buy my capsules from Holland & Barrett - Vitamin E Capsules £3.09 for 100 capsules (Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant to help protect cells against cell damage caused by free radicals).

I will be 50 in 6 weeks time and have noticed a huge change in my skin since turning 40, menopause etc, the one thing I do not do now is bow down to the pressures of buying expensive creams, I tend to use organic products etc.
  • Thank you debbie, they are on my shopping list, are they with the skincare or with the vitamins???

Sharon they are with the vitamins, I normally have a pamper evening one evening a week, have a bath, facial and then apply the capsule.

It will feel quite greasy but soon sinks in, in the morning my skin feels lovely & so cheap
  • Mission 1 has began, hair dye on and gonna cut in a fringe untill i can get to see my hairdresser. Also going to use bicarb as a facial scrub, need to this as mse as possible - so i can save for botox :)

Going to boots to see if i can get some vitamin e capsules too, thanks debbie!!

Sharon, I read that sea salt can be used as a body scrub - maybe fine sea salt could be used as a facial scrub?

I've got similar issues about photos.....I'm about to get married and will have to invest in a new passport & have a new driving licence, so thought I'd change my photo while I was at it...am not looking forward to it!

I had good results with dermalogica products and then by chance tried Liz earl and had even better results and i've stuck with it. Last year i finally stopped trying every new product out and stuck with what worked. My can't live without products are:

    Liz earle cleanse and polish

    Boots protect and perfect serum

    Bare minerals foundation

Clinique city block spf 40 (sits nice under make up, naughty though only use it when sunny)

I also use the liz earle moisturiser/toner and eye cream when i feel the need. The cleanser leaves my skin so nice, that it doesnt need a moisturiser every day.

I did use almond oil to cleanse with for a about a week, my skin felt lovely and then i got huge spots, well lumps, they never got a head and took ages to heal. Other people have had very good results with oils.

Drinking lots of water makes a big difference to skin. I'm always struggling with this but it plumps and brightens and makes you look less tired, as well as making eyes look bigger, clearer and brighter. I can see a difference when I do, but it's ongoning conscious thing have to keep reminding myself.

I try to get a full glass down several times a day standing at the sink as I'm not very good about remembering to sip from bottles, as well as normal tea/coffee etc and try to have a full glass as soon as I wake up and half a glass before I go to bed.

Do you smoke? That's a huge skin-ager too.

I would definitely start to use a night cream too. Modern formulas are light and you apply sparingly. When you're resting, that's when a lot of the skin repair takes place so give it a helping hand! If you're using the Aldi day cream, why not match it up with the night cream. There are several Aldi creams, I think one is recommended particularly over the others, anyone else know which one?

I've used Clinique for the past 13 years but will use most things, and admittedly only on a morning will I cleanse properly, just leave it on a night but I don't tend to wear make up in the summer - haven't worn any since May and in the summer I tend to wear a facial sun cream with moisturiser in it.
My passport is due for renewal anytime from now- I'm quite looking forward to getting my photo done, the last one I hadn't long had DS1 and I'm wearing a 'stunning' Primark fleece:o there again the one before I had a sundress on with very thin straps so that one looked like I was naked:p so it probably can't get much worse - or can it:o
