You could try downloading something via your mobile network. If that works and wifi doesn't, it may be a firewall problem.

Tried that and no joy Fifer.

Just a thought. You have to have a googlemail account to download apps don't you? And doesn't it have to be shown as @googlemail, not @gmail on the phone settings?

gmail or googlemail will work. I changed from a goolgemail.co.uk address to a gmail.com and both worked. I did have to do a factory reset though.

It sounds to me like it that may be the issue. It needs Google talk running to be able to download apps I believe. You haven't killed that have you?

Have a look at this thread.

It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

there seems to have been some issues in the market recently. i cant see anyway to report the problem back to google that i am aware about. i have two desire phones and had issues on both the phones today and one of my phones yesterday too. loads of apps were just saying updating and never doing anything, i did everything other than reset.

i have found that this can happen often if you are on gprs instead of hsdpa if the data speeds are low. more often when the weather is bad and very cloudy if you live on the fringes of a cell zone. so that might be an issue too when cell zones contract during bad weather or during peak load times etc. atleast thats my understanding after reading about this issue in detail.

one of the phones has loads of free memory so that is not an issue. today when i accessed the market a few minutes ago on that phone, when i went to the downloaded section it was just showing one app on the phone in the downloads section, then i downloaded another app just to test, it downloaded that and then all the apps showed up on their own.

on the other phone i have constant memory issues as i keep it loaded with apps. it is fully loaded even after froyo apps2sd crap. looks like i will have to go the xda mentioned sdk method to sort out the apps i want to force to sd card as most of the developers havent pulled their fingers out of their backsides on this issue and dont know how long it will be before they get off their backsides on the apps2sd issue. the sdk method will give the initiative to the user without rooting the phone.

i got around the market problem i had been experiencing on one phone for the past couple of days as apps were never updating and constantly stuck on downloads but showing 0% downloaed for more than 24h continuoously. i stopped googlemail synching then restarted this but with no success. then i uninstalled quite a few apps and then last uninstalled google earth and BANG everything started working after uninstalling google earth. it worked instantly and all apps updated within a minute or less then i reinstalled all the apps including google earth immediately and all took less than a minute to download. think some apps cause that issue, may be google earth i am not sure as everything is perfect again now. i have some 117+ apps at last count or maybe more with memory constantly an issue as i almost on every single day since i bought the phone have had less than 15mb left but dont usually have probs with the market but it has occured on a few occassions.

another thing is that when doing downloads, dont do other things intensive on internal memory like watching hd video on your albums etc. because when i had often internal memory of 4mb etc i often found when i clicked my album the album would show as empty, so initially horrified that my daughters recent videos had disappeared. but after i deleted a few apps and increased internal memory then those videos reappeared again. it is present on the sd card, it is just the low internal memory issues dont let you load it or view it till it has more than 10mb or so. but that would depend on the size of the video files you are trying to view. the 720p hd videos can easily be 18-20mb just for a couple of minutes .

so instead of doing facory reset, try deleting afew apps and increasing internal memory if your phone is loaded with apps or if memory isnt an issue then see if you have google earth etc and uninstall it and see if it works like it did for me today.

ps: (not related to the query but thought would mention it anyway incase it is useful ) you can reinstall google earth after that. i find google earth very very zippy now after froyo update and it was zippy anyway on earlier 2.1 version anyway. rendering of maps on moving the globe is almost instantaeneous and i have checked different countries mapping to house level detail at multiple locations. so didnt want to do without this app. if you want to show the capabilities of the phone then show the google earth on froyo now and street view and voice activated navigation.

xda threads say zoom is not there in the video feature in 720p, but it is there in my experience. when you open the video option in 720p on the left you have a small scroller that lets you zoom but once you start shooting the video then you cant zoom during the shoot. the motion stabilisation is great in the video mode at 720p and absolutely no jitteriness on the video even when there is not much light.
