Hiya - see that the topic of conversation hasn't changed on here - Food Food Food - nowt wrong with that after all we need to eat don't we? So we might as well enjoy it :D:j

Nothing at the car boot this morning - only 9 stalls but Tuesdays are new so it will need to build up - hubbie made an executive decision all by himself last week (round of applause please :T :T :T) and he is going to start doing the car boots properly again - Tuesday, Friday and Sunday - he is fed up doing nothing and needs to be more active so I am checking with DWP about him signing off Incapacity and giving it a try - will have to see how he manages and obviouly he'll have to make up for the loss of his Incap money first but we will see - it will be better for him I'm sure

I think they may allow him to do it one day a week or so to try it out first and still keep his beneft but we'll see

We just can't see ourselves doing them and not declaring it - as most people do round here - so will do everything properly and have a clear concious

Hi 3Dogs - Well done to Hubby but I don't know if I'm missing the point here, why would you have to declare to DWP that you are doing boot sales, surely if you are selling stuff that is already yours, why would it have to be declared? A different story I suppose if you're running a stall selling new goods as a business.

If... Thanks for the sarnie, went down a treat!

3Dogs. If it's buying to resell then you have to declare it to the taxman within 3 months of starting (check that out, it might have changed recently). For IB purposes, if you don't make more than an average of £20 a week profit and/or do more than 16 hours then it's fine, although you need to let them know. I'd assume that if you took over the car boot for an hour to give him a rest then that wouldn't count towards the 16 hours. There's a DFW'er called Clairewop who runs a business on IB, I'm sure she can advise on how to do it.

If he's seriously planning this speak to your local DIAL or similar so that it can be gradually tapered in. The last thing you/he needs is to give up IB to try it and then be left high and dry if it doesn't work. You'd also need to speak to the IB people first to make sure that it's being done under the linking rules - which means that if it doesn't work out he can go back on his old benefits rather than the new ones. But you need to sort it out with them first rather than just assume.

I hope I don't sound unsupportive, I'm sure it will work and there wont be a problem, but you need to make sure the safety net's there just in case.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Well said Aimes, 3dogs people don't plan to fail, they just fail to plan.
If you have a backup in place then even if you don't need to use it, it helps keep the stress down and if things don't go as well as you hoped in the early days at least you get to sleep at night.

That said, I'm sure it will go well for Mr 3dogs. I know a couple of guys make a very reasonable living doing car boots and markets.

    Regards, handy.

I'm guessing you mean the bankruptcy thread? I've just reported her second message on it. People facing br don't need to be judged, they're in a bad enough place as it is.

BL & If... as well as selling own own stuff, which we have loads of, he would be buying from the local auction to resell too - second hand stuff, collectables, old tools, etc

Many thanks Ames - it's that bit about how much you can earn and how long you can work that I meant - that is what I will be checking out - and about the linking thing too, if he can't manage it - I would hate for him to lose out on Incap if he had to give up. He is 61 this year by the way and he has never been out of work in his life, until recently - he has always been able to step into another job if a company went bust, or he wanted a change - he had never signed on for dole money in his life until about 4 years ago and hated it - he took a much lower paying job to get off the dole but was made redundant the day he went in for Cancer op in December 2007 and has not worked since. He could never go back to his old occupation of sheet-metal worker as it would be far too heavy for him

Thanks for the tip about Clairewop too - I shall check that out

Isn't DFW great - so much information at your fingertips and so many people always there with advice - I love it
