I think you are being quoted over the list price to be honest. You might want to ring around a bit. The open front fire is much cheaper than the glass fronted fire and £2k sounds far too much.
Thank you, very kind of you for having a look into it for me.
I will give the people you went to a call as well when we're ready to purchase in the next month or so.
Not as much as a three hour drive for me either. Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

How are you getting on Doozergirl?
We had ours fitted 10 days ago. In the end the local fitter did it for £2600 - £50 less then the original quote. The lad came out was young but seemed to know what he was doing and it seems a professional job (though I have no idea how a good fireplace should look). Anyhow, very warm fire, lovely flame effect and we are very happy with it.
Still not sure if its value for money given the current climate though!0 -
I need to start proper shopping. We've put the flue liner into the new chimney and there's now a stonking great hole in the wall where the fire should go! I've had one price of £1654 so it's not exactly bargainous if the RRP is genuinely £1595! but they'd indicated there might be some movement in it...
I'll have the money to pay for it this week but just waiting for the burlgar alarm to be installed as well as I'm not leaving that in the house with no security!
You should show us a pic of yours in action

That sounds expensive! From what I've seen open fronted ones are quite a bit cheaper then the glass fronted ones.
Will put the pic on here - as soon as I can work out how to put pic from my iphone......0 -
Hi Doozergirl,
Here is a pic of my fireplace. Sorry its not too clear, iPhone's camera isn't brilliant. And please try and ignore the wall - its stripped of wallpaper and in much need ol TLC:o

Oooooh WOW! It looks fabulous! What a beauty!
I hope mine looks as good as that, lol! SO glad you posted your pic, thank you
I ordered mine this morning £1209. Will pay someone to fit it.
I spoke to the company above and they were really good price £1199 but I had to go to the showroom to order. I phoned Gazco direct and asked them directly about the warranty as I was told the same about the warranty not being valid if you buy online. Gazco told me that they recommend their customers buy directly from a showroom for the additional support. However, the fire is guaranteed for one year as long as it is fitted in line with the instructions and has the relevant building regs certificate. And then for a second year if it has been serviced after one year.
So fingers crossed now for delivery!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

£1209 sounds very good! I'm typin this on the floor with my feet toasting near the fire - even though its got a glass infront, it feels like a furnace
We are planning on painting the wall choccolaty brown (with more cappucinno colour on other 3 walls), hopefully the fireplace stands out a bit better then the current plaster.
Good luck with the installation - be sure to post a pic when you are done!0 -
Great to see so much interest in our gas fires!
I would like to add a few things as there seems to be some general confusion regarding open and glass fronted gas fires out there.
1. Glass fronted gas fires DO generate heat and are most certainly not just a feature! They are also more efficient than open fires and therefore give you more heat for less money.
§ An open fire may be as low as 20% efficient (20p for every £1 you spend gives you heat) whereas the latest Gazco fires are up to 86% efficient (86p for every £1 you spend gives you heat).
§ To heat the room it is in; you need around 14kW of heat for every cubic metre of space…So, a Gazco Studio 1 gas fire will give you up to 5.2kW of heat, enough to heat 72.9 cubic metres of space (more than enough for the average living room).
2. You cannot have a balanced flue on an open fronted fire as they only work with a sealed (ie glass fronted) gas fire.
3. You can find a choice of 3 local retailers stocking Gazco gas fires by using the postcode search function on their website
Best wishes

Some thing wrong with the maths here. You seem to be saying they will need 197 gas fires to heat the room!0 -
Apologies, I meant 1kW for every 14 cubic metres of space0
