I'm not really sure what the problem is here.

She openly states at the end that she thinks it's probably the worst investment decision they have ever made.

However, she also states they think it's right for their family and they found the right house for them.

So, they found a home, they paid for it, but think prices will fall. Basically that's not too much of an issue, because it's a home. They were in a flat they hated, and it was dragging them down, so went looking for what they wanted.

What's the actual problem people have with this?

I think anyone so wrapped up in the perils of buying a house, the implications doing so has and who is so vocal about why others shouldnt buy, is a person who would absolutely put investment safety ahead of anything else. It seems very convenient that she has pulled out the 'a house is a home for family happiness' card when she actually decides to buy.

All the 'I still think prices will crash XX%, but bought due to family needs' sucking up she does to try to justify her hypocrisy is transparant to even a deaf ape.

Instead of trying to keep her street cred with the bears, she'd be best off just admitting she doesnt think prices will crash anymore and get some kudos from the bulls.

The problem is Graham, she spent the last few years very publicly predicting a crash of epic proportions and a lot of people have been taken in by her poor advice. Where does this leave those people now she's suddenly changed her mind?

There's no way even you can believe that she's bought now because of some nonsence about a family home.

We're not talking about losing a couple of grand here Graham. If things pan out as she has predicted in the past then she's highly likely to be half a million pounds in negative equity by her own calculations.

It's total hypocrisy and she doesn't even have the bottle to admit she was completely wrong.

Exactly, I coudnt agree with her more-

"But we still think it will turn out to be the worst investment decision we have ever made. The demand for a house has nothing to do with how many people would like to live in it and everything to do with how many people can get their hands on the credit to do so. Right now credit is severely restricted and the supply of houses for sale is rising fast. That’s an equation that can only have one result."

our daughter wanted her bedroom to be pink rather than magnolia and I wanted her to have what she wanted, whatever the financial cost

Anyone else foresee trouble ahead, if the daughter's desires have to be met "whatever the financial cost?"

I've never heard of the woman but if that's her attitude, I can't see how she can possibly advise anyone, anywhere on anything!

    Exactly.

Ultimately if someone was letting their housing decisions be ruled by someone writing for MoneyWeek then they are past help anyhow.

This woman is a joke. She's been blasting the housing market for years and goes and does the opposite of what of what she's been preaching. That said, anyone who states "the rules of supply and demand do not operate in the housing market" (The One Show, 2008) clearly does not know what she's talking about. I also think it's a lesson in using your own judgment instead of being influenced by what the media/ internet, believe to be correct for there own ultimate gain.
