I am another of those 'slim but eats pies' people. I also like wine, real ale, cakes (hm of course) and decent portions of meat, but everything in moderation;)
i am worried it may backfire because DD who is skinny has been picking at her food saying 'but you are skinny mummy' but she KNOWS i eat well - I just exercise 2x gym, 1x yoga, walk to town, put my back into it when I do housework and have 3 jobs for clients which involve cleaning, quite strenuously:).Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

a sprinkling of cornflour on the bottom will prevent a soggy bottom. Also place a non-metal dish on a metal baking tray0

Did Moggins recipe for mushroom and chicken pie last week, with some leftover pastry I had, couldn't believe how easy it was to make and... HOW DELICIOUS it was!!!! Yummie indeed!

Have got to confess that since I retired I do a LOT of cooking/baking... and my Steak / Mushroom pie is a regular on the menu...0

I am inspired. I learned to cook along with dad and brother when mum went in to hospital for major surgery nearly 40 years ago. I cooked for myself after I left home when single because I had to, and cook now I am married because I want to. Shortcrust pastry sweet pies was one of the specialities I used to woo my wife when we were courting, along with duck a'lorange.
Next month I will be in the USA fending for myself for six weeks with a 2 ring electric hob and microwave. Normally I survive on hotel meals eaten or blagged, (doggy bag) or suplementaed by homemade meals such as chilli con carne, and taken to work to be reheated.
Reading this thread has convinced me to try the ancient art of pie making again. I'm sure I will be able make or buy pastry and produce meals suitable to transport the 80 miles each day into the dry county where I will be working at stupid o'clock in the morning. I will of course have to supply my own kettle to make tea as Americans don't understand the concept of pouring boiling water onto tea: much more complicated than sending a shuttle to the moon.
Thanks for all the hints and tips, I now know I will survive.
