Ok well that shoots me in the foot then
I got Tescos free magazine and there is a relatively easy apple pie recipe to follow so meand my little one were going to have a go at making it tomorrow.
Will have to trawl round town to find a pie dish/ tin somewhere. I was thinking one of those ceramic like quiche plates not really deep but have the edge on it. I dont fancy using a bleeding cake tin.
Ill have a nose tomorrow and see what i can findTime to find me again0 -
I make pies, not often, but I like egg and bacon, beef and onion, chicken, or on the sweet side ANYTHING as long as it's in a pie. Lemon meringue YUM, don't make them too often otherwise I would not be so slim.
I have a pie dish I bought in poundland ages ago.
On the subject of dishes you cannot get, we wanted to put a soufflé dish on our wedding list bit Debenhams don't do them  what's the world coming to!?Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Thank you Sarah! That reminded me we haven't had lemon merigue pie for a very long time! Will have to have a go when we get back from hols.
Thanks to everyone who's kindly posted links to places that sell pie dishes!:A0 -
Try wilkinsons as they do the mason and cash mixing bowls and also pie dishes like the lakeland link.
They might well not be mason and cash but an off brand and a couple of pounds.
Umm I have some fish in the freezer and some potatoes think I better learn to make a white sauce and then we can have fish pie. :j

wow I can't believe you can't get pie dishes that easily anymore. I think I have a pie dish in the cupboard somewhere, but I must admit I just use the lid of the pyrex casserole dish these days..Mortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️

MATH wrote:If I'm mass-baking and freezing I cut pastry letters out to put on the top to spell what the filling is ie: Mince, apple, blackberry, freezer lables are ok but you can't eat them:rotfl:
Hi, Math! I used to completely confuse my family by putting the greek letter pi atop my pies. :rotfl: :rotfl: Weird mathematical brain
I have a glass pie dish bought about 3 years ago. Barnitts in York yesterday had lovely sloping sided ceramic pie dishes.
I make pies without a dish. For savoury ones, I roll a square of pastry, put cold, thickish filling onto it in a diamond shape, almost to the edges, then bring the sides in, to form a cross of seams on top. For fruit pies, I roll an oval, place the filling into a smaller oval, then pull up the pastry over the fruit, leaving some of the fruit showing in the middle. Brush with egg white, and sprinkle with sugar.

That's right you don't necessarily have to have a pie dish. You can make freeform pies. Roll out the pastry into a rough circle, put the filling in the middle leaving a 3-4 inch margin and fold up the edges to make a rough looking open tart.0

This thread has made me smile so:) I imagine freeform pie making in the next olympics...
Now I really want a pie, time to be brave and tackle the windfalls. This week we have had apple crumble, apple cake, baked apples, leftover baked apples...needless to say my digestion is fantastic. Surely an apple pie is not that unhealthy!?Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
