No-one makes pies????

  • I had this very problem a while back. In the end I found some really deep dinner plates (the chunky pot type ones, not fine bone china :D) in TJ Hughes. I paid 50p each for them - I got two. (They are also great for people like my BIL who loves gravy and moans that modern plates are too flat to get a decent amount of gravy on his dinner :D)

I feel a chicken and veg pie coming on this weekend

I am going to be Mr Bad Examples special guest when he makes the chicken and leek pie on here soon - watch this space!

I don't have a pie dish but I do have a round sandwich tin which I think is meant for cooking Victoria sponge type cake in. Would that be suitable for making a pie in?

tigs, it is possible to use it, but it's not particularly suitable. A pie dish/plate needs a 'lip' around the edge so you can seal the pastry top to the bottom - not to mention it's easier to get the pie out ;):D

Hmmn, I'm confused now. I just did a search on ebay for 'pie dish' and this listing comes up...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PIE-DISH-PLATE-NON-STICK-2YG-8-X-3-4-INCH-EASY-CLEAN_W0QQitemZ230028959042QQihZ013QQcategoryZ20627QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

This is the photo from the listing - the tin in my cupboard look identical. Is this really a pie dish? If it is then I already have one!

You could try Tesco's, pretty sure they let their customers make pies :D

I did notice them in House Of fraser not so long ago, and they also had those ceramic little birds that you oput in the middle to relaease the steam. I think i must have looked like a right sad case drooling over them whne other 20-0dd year olds were walzing by with armfuls of designer clobber :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I was just about to mention enamel pie plates :rotfl:

We have a lovely shop were they still sell traditional enamelware (white, blue edgings).

If anyone gets desperate, let me know ;)

Ive got a couple of those pie tins, my mum gave them to me. If im just making a pie with a crust, i use a ceramic dish that ive got, but if im making the base as well, i either use a cake tin or one of the white ones!!!!
I dont like shop bought pies, dodgy/not much filing and soggy pastry!!!!!

You can still get jam sugar in the supermarkets, though. Lakeland are supposed to be good at responding to their customers' demands, so I guess letters about pie plates and Certo might trigger something?
