If I bought a second-hand Vauxhall with the new warranty being non-transferable, I would simply book it in for a service under the original owners name, same with any warranty repairs. Besides, legally they can't insist on the car having to have 1 service a year at a main dealer. Under EU regs you can have the vehicle serviced at any garage. So long as the service book gets stamped & the garage uses fluids and components of the same (or higher) grade than those recommended by the manuafacturer then the warranty stands.Never Knowingly Understood.

True, however they are only insisting on a visit to a Vauxhall Dealer every 12 months, not a service.
No doubt to squeeze some money out of the owner.
My cousin bought a brand new Astra in 2008, he didn't make it the eight miles home before all of the brake fluid found it's way all over the engine bay, obviously taking the paint with it.0 -
Interesting the article appears in Fleet News - Shows very clearly where this is aimed.
The one yearly visit to the vauxhall garage will pretty much force leasing companies to have the cars serviced there as there customers will not tolerate 6 days of downtime annually (assuming 30k a year).
This isnt a biggie for most fleets as they get fleet service rate so fair enough.
Also worth noting a fleet driver doing 25k a year would expire this warranty after 4 years. They would currently change at 3 or 4 years anyway.
The major impact of this initiative is to reduce the service and maintainance costs for lease companies resulting in lower monthly rentals , this will allow their cars onto more bandings and result in more sales. This explains why warranty cant be transferred. They dont want low milage retail customers taking advantage of a 3 year 60k lease car at auction and putting 5k a year on it and having the benefit of a warranty that would last till the car was 11 years old.
The retired driver buying his last car for 5k a year would enjoy a 20 year warranty. Sounds too good to be true but years ago several dealers offered lifetime services on any car bought and some are still doing these free services 20 years later
If the above sounds like criticism its not - I think its great and will force others to react.
Watch for the leap in residual values when the ability to pass this on to second owners is introduced.
Any guesses on the % jump anyone - Harvey B???0 -
Just thinking about this in 'value terms' and working on the basis that warranty direct or another third part warranty company would charge you £250 a quid for every year after your 3 year warranty ran out this would be worth £500 to someone doing 20k a year but £1750 to someone doing 10k a year.
If you restricted your miles to 5k a year it would be worth £4250.
So bet this yearly visit will check for signs of clocking

You bet. At the least they'll be recording the mileage to make sure you have to clock it at least annually!0

So in Vauxhall's opinion, their cars are only good for 100,000 miles?
Well !!!! you Vauxhall tbh.0 -
You just can't please some people especially the badge brigade.
I suppose Hyundai are wrong too as their unlimited mileage warranty only applies for 5 years, their cars must therefore have a life expectancy of 5 years max going by the logic shown in this thread.
For the private buyer this Vauxhall move is of great interest, prompted no doubt by the number of sales gained by Kia/Hyundai in the private sector, i for one admire them for having a go at meeting the challenge.0 -
