Why am I penalised at 6ft 7ins for extra legroom?

If people are just buying a standardized product then I guess children who are unable to sit on the parents lap should be charged full price, rather than a discount awarded. I'd like to see this one swallowed!
Perhaps we could also charge disabled people who require specialist seating and access? After all it's just a standard product and anyone requiring anything additional should be charged. It's not the persons fault they are disabled or happen to be tall.
On many airlines children are charged full price.
You cannot compare being tall to being disabled, such a comparison would be pretty ignorant.Gone ... or have I?0 -
"Disabilities is an umbrella term, covering impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. An impairment is a problem in body function or structure; an activity limitation is a difficulty encountered by an individual in executing a task or action; while a participation restriction is a problem experienced by an individual in involvement in life situations. Thus disability is a complex phenomenon, reflecting an interaction between features of a person’s body and features of the society in which he or she lives."
I think you could include being over a certain height and presented with the action of travelling within a predefined area as specified by the airline.
It would also be a safety risk if someone was unable to sit in the prescribed manner of the aviation seat.
The majority of non "low cost" airlines give a 20-40% discount depending on destination and will also carry a buggy or car seat at no extra charge. Even Ryanair and easyJet will carry a buggy for free.I'm going for my QuidCo £million!

The 'tall' arguement falls over because no one is forcing you to fly, so the airline doesn't have to accomodate you. I feel your pain as I am 6foot4, but luckily I don't need to fly economy.
There's plenty of opportunities to buy seats with extra space, or even tricks to buying upgrades (cash or miles) to improve your comfort on long flights.
Similarily I would charge someone double who expands into two seats.Legal team on standby0 -

I really don't see the problem with this. You pay for a seat and you are required to pay extra for a more comfortable seat just the same as everyone else. Unlike overweight people you can actually fit in the seat and even in their case they have to pay extra. You would literally have to be a giant not to be able to fit in the seat at all.
While it's not your fault your tall it's not the airlines fault either and I don't really see why they should lose out on revenue because of this.0 -

I have been paying full fare since my son was 12. is he not still a child?0 -
From my point of view, why should I not have the opportunity to occupy an extra leg room seat if I've paid the same money as the OP. Should I be "punished" because I didn't grow so tall? If you want extras you should pay for them, even if it means flying Business Class.0

On flights i dont like;
People in front who recline the seat and dont give a toss for people behind
People who dont look after their wailing brats and who run amok
People who think they can occupy my space near the door for child minding/baby changing/general socail interaction just becuase i got lucky and got a seat with lots of room in front
Loud, gobby people who obviously dont get out much and are overcome with euphoria becuase they have managed a week in Majorca
Prima donnas who think they have boarded a private jet and should have the full attention of cabin crew
People who cant read and cannot therefore find their seat and then take all day to sit down
he list is exhaustive..
You see we all have our crosses to bear when travelling on public transport.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
My OH is 6ft 2in and we have never booked extra legroom. But on a couple of occasions, we've have a very helpful checking in clerk and they have allocated us the seat right by the doors, which doesn't have another seat in front, at no extra cost.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670

You must face height prejudice on a day to day basis too those - all those doors that are 6'6" designed to knock the top of your head off, the cars that are designed for people between 5 and 6 foot, with nothing comfortable for those outwith the range.
Sorry mate, but it is statistics, the mass market cabins are built to keep the many in an acceptable degree of comfort, just enough comfort to get them to rebook on their next flight. Unusual heights ilke your own are outwith what the economy class will be built for, so you will have to bite the bullet and pay a bit more to fly in relative comfort.
We upgraded to world traveller plus as a treat (none of us are anywhere near 6ft) on our holiday flights to and from Seattle, and it's not been a good move. The seats were so nice my DH doesn't want to back to cattle class! The deal we got for the upgrade was very reasonable, but it won't always be so good value... so think long and hard before you get accustomed to a little luxury.;) It really won't be very MSE.:)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
