Why am I penalised at 6ft 7ins for extra legroom?

I have just booked extra legroom for myself and wife for our holiday this year. I really begrudge having to pay for this service as I didnt ask to grow to 6ft 7ins tall!! Why must I be penalised for this when passengers who are overweight and who potentially take up 2 seats and extra weight, get away with it?!!!
I know I dont have to pay for it but I cannot wedge my frame and long legs into a normal seat for 4 hours at a time without spoiling my holiday with cronic back pain.
Is there anybody out there feeling the same about this unfare tax?

You have paid the same as everybody else, therefore you get the same product as everybody else.
If someone requires two seats they have to pay for two seats, either at full price or with the second seat marginally reduced.Gone ... or have I?0 -
it's business pure and simple ,they don't care how tall you are, all they want is more money.:(0

He isn't getting the same product as everybody else. Everybody else is getting adequate legroom. He, through no fault of his own, is not.0 -
we have the same issue - my partner is 6ft8. Going back 5 years or so we regularly got asked on the plane whether we'd like to have the extra legroom exit seats, but since they started selling the seat we are never asked, its just about the money!
My partner gets irate about it, but there's little we can do. I try and look at it as the downside, there are upsides to the height too, he gets a much better view at gigs than I do!fran-o0 -

You do not book 'adequate legroom', you book a certain amount of legroom. Therefore he is getting the same product as anybody else.Gone ... or have I?0 -
He isn't booking an amount of legroom, he is booking a seat in which he should be able to sit with a reasonable degree of comfort. If his size was due to some self inflicted condition I would have little sympathy, but he can't help his height and the airlines should cater for him.
As has been said, not so long ago airlines did cater for people of above average height and, if possible, they were given the seats with extra legroom when they checked in... at no extra charge.0 -

Please show me the airline which offers a seat with a reasonable degree of comfort as opposed to one which offers a seat with a certain amount of legroom?
You are confusing what would be offered in an ideal world with what is actually offered.Gone ... or have I?0 -
On the same basis, can I have a discount because I can fit in a standard sized seat?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Is that with Thomas Cook? I must admit its a bit confusing you can reserve a seat for £7.50 (so surely could choose an emergency exit seat- there are seating plans of all planes freely available) but if you want to specify extra leg room you have to pay extra. (from £80 for long haul- quite a lot imo)"It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice." :T0

If people are just buying a standardized product then I guess children who are unable to sit on the parents lap should be charged full price, rather than a discount awarded. I'd like to see this one swallowed!
Perhaps we could also charge disabled people who require specialist seating and access? After all it's just a standard product and anyone requiring anything additional should be charged. It's not the persons fault they are disabled or happen to be tall.I'm going for my QuidCo £million!
