Forecourt robbery
I was filling up today at Tesco, diesel was being sold for 119.9p per litre, or so I thought. Put exactly 10 litres in, exactly! And was charged £12. This is the second time this has happened, I know it is only pennies, but if it was multiplied by 5 as I would normally do, then multiplied by the hundreds of customers per day in this one garage alone, a massive multinational corporation is raking it in by over charging for an already extortionate product. I questioned the teller who was no older than my daughter, who then looked like I had asked him the reasons for world poverty and the current global down turn, I laughed it off and he looked relieved. I have a receipt from today and will endeavour to do the same in future. Try it, fill up to a nice round number and see if you have the same results, thieves.......Who can I complain to?????

Trading Standards would be a good start, as well as the manager of the store.0

Many thanks for your really helpful insight, but if my maths serve me correctly that still wouldn't warrant paying £12.0

Yep, first thing I would do if I was 'overcharged ' by fractions of ONE PENCE would be to post on a forum.
So instead of paying £11.99 you paid £12. Really worth losing sleep over isn't it? NOT
No it isn't pennies. It's 1p. Wow, mulitiplied by 5 ..thats................. 5P!!!!!
For crying out loud...GET A LIFE
If you don't like it get your fuel somewhere else. We don't care0 -
The 'error' is one twelfth of one percent - I really doubt that the pump is capable of measuring to that degree of accuracy. How do you know it isn't actually rounding a little in your favour?
And multiplied by 5 the error is still going to be 1p - one sixtieth of one per cent.
What are you going to do when 1ps and 2ps are abolished - there is a very strong argument that they are redundant. The equivalents in many countries have already gone.0 -
It's people like yourself sir and the other hate monger that signify all that is wrong with the british population today, all you seem to want to do is shoot people down who try to express an interest in consumer affairs. If I have nothing better to do than write on this forum, highlighting the way that we are being ridden roughshod by people with a lot more money than us, well, it doesn't say much for those who just sit there waiting to abuse people. You remind me of those who write and probably read tabloid rubbish, those who are willing to hail somebody one day, then shoot them down the next. Back to my original point, and this will be my last as it's deteriorated to petty name calling is this; A massive company is creaming money by overcharging for fuel, yes it is pennies to us, but long term it is thousands of pounds if not more, you see, you just need to see the bigger picture my friend, the world is a bigger place than your living room.0

Petrol pumps will be pretty accurate as they are selling based on quantity and they have only a small margin of error under otherwise they are in bother with trading standards.
I suspect that it would be quite difficult to put in exactly the 10litres without going slightly over and petrol prices the way they are you only need to go over by 0.05 of a litre or 5ml to bump you up by a penny.
Now if you can tell 5ml out of 10,000ml I would be mighty impressed. Point is the quantity you put in would not have been exactly 10 litres but ever so slightly more, remember you only need to put in half a pennys worth of fuel to put you up a penny in cost.
(Hopefully my sums were correct )0 -
