Cheapest way to get to o2 BB/Home Phone?

Hey all, new to this place, so, Hello :D

Just a query really,

My partner and I are buying a house, getting it in just under a fortnight, ideally we want to end up with our broadband and home phone with o2 (LLU) and our tv with sky.

The current house owners are with Sky, they have their phone and bb pending cancellation, and the TV for their last month there, I've spoken to BT whome have said if the line is being cancelled, it is the painful £128 fee to reactivate the line, right, lot of work for them i'm sure.. ;)

Either way, I know o2 are planning to do a home phone activation service sometime this month, although when that service starts they are going to have major backlogs and I know we will be looking at 3-4 weeks without phone or bb, phone would be nice, and my partner uses bb for her self employed work, and working in IT in a school I need to be able to login to the school systems if anything needs looking at of an evening (or daytime as I'm off for the summer), so we were trying to find a way around this.

Would it work to speak to the current owners, see if they would either transfer the bb/home phone to our name and we can then do what we want to do in regards to moving as and when, but would this affect our right to get Sky+ HD as a new customer, as we really wouldn't want to pay for a new sky box, as they charge the earth and more!

Bit confused really in trying to find the best/quickest way to do all this!

Thanks!

Interesting. I spoke to o2 today to explain I have a BT line in but it's not active and they didn't mention anything to me about this. I had resigned myself to taking BT line rental.

Never resign yourself to something such as that!!!

They've assured be it'll be sometime this month! And a much lower cost than BT's what can only be described as "violation upon your financial being"!

Absolutely mate, I called o2 home broadband, and spoke to someone on saturday, he mentioned o2 will be doing activation from mid-late August, have actually called a few times since and been told the same, most of them said no date anounced yet, but will be this month, one guy said August 14th, took my details and promised to call me back.

I moved into an apartment about 6 weeks ago.
It used to have a BT phone. The line had a dialling tone but you couldn't make or receive calls. Was that activated?
I got 17070 and got my number. Primus moved me over to them for free. No fee.

I wouldn't place too much faith in any dates given by O2, they delayed the introduction of the phone service a few times, I recall.;)

I got different answers about moving from Tiscali/Talk Talk to o2 Home Phone and Broadband. I had to go through several people to get to the right info. earlier this year.

I went to BT for line rental and o2 for BB in the end.

I'll trust them for now, I've had 5 different operators (They must hate me by now :D) Assure me that it'll be August, I've never been let down by the mobile side of o2 (Aside from the house we are moving to having absolutely ZERO o2 signal inside or outside, any ideas on any ways to remedy this aside from moving provider?)

Well the #1 hit for o2 picocell is this ancient 2006 register story about them trialling the tech... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/11/22/o2_picocell_trial/

I can only assume they are still mulling it over but if you call them and ask they'll probably say it will be available towards the end of August :)

Just as you should never count eggs until they are safely in the basket you should never rely on salesmen's promises. Especially O2 salesmen.

    ==update==

After some more digging I realise I should have been looking for femtocell but O2 don't do those either.
  • Fair enough then mate, I'll wait it out and see, anything is better paying out £130 to BT and being stuck in their contract hell for 12 months, so I'll place my eggs near o2's basket for now, and hope those chickens deliver! :D
