Incidentally, a very interesting thread on Old Style - taking that argument further, should you not be allowed to buy BOGOFs and other offers if your income allows you to buy items at full price ? And more pertinently to us here, should we be allowed to take advantage of the CFR recipes if we can afford to spend more than £25 per person on food each month ? Discuss ;)

My view is yes absolutely we SHOULD.

But I'm guessing that alone doth not an interesting debate make!:rotfl:

    So I shall elaborate:

To suggest that richer people shouldn't purchase cheaper foods assumes several points which are not true:

    1) that there are not enough of the cheaper foods and therefore we would be depriving people if we took them.

not true because: cheaper goods will always be cheaper BECAUSE they are plentiful. If they became scarce they would rise in price. Nuff said.

    2) that by leaving cheaper foods on the shelf we make it more likely for someone in tougher circs to buy them. Once again, not true.

not true because:We cannot get all the poorer people to shop in a particular way without a peculiar type of nanny state and nor would we want to.

    3) this view muddles up two different seperate tasks which cannot be merged. The first is waste management (reducing foods that are close to sell-by date) and the second is charitable giving. I do not believe it is practically or morally possible to merge these 2 ideas.

this incidentally is my chief frustration with freecycle. It ought to be (i feel) of nil relevance to me whether the person who turns up to collect my unwanted dishwasher is driving a BMW or a rusty old datsun with the door missing. It is my waste, and if others can benefit- all to the good.

:) The end of my weezl views (massively summarised!)

quick question, I'm just trying to implement the half batch suggestion for the 5 loaf bread batch.

However half of 5 loaves is a troublesome 2 and a half :rotfl:

do people prefer the idea of a 3 loaf batch or a 2 loaf batch for a novice kitty?

Jenny:A I think you recently did this, can I ask what proportions you used?

I like a four loaf batch, just to be awkward, as it fills up the oven to its full capacity and therefore I feel it's most economical and thrifty ;) If it can't be done though (which clearly is an issue here), then a two loaf batch frees up the other shelf in the oven for baking something else.... Roasting the parsnips for the use the the lentil pie, perhaps ? ;)

Arty, the plates are from Matalan :)

    Hi Weezl

I only had enough bread flour to make 1 loaf and 2 calzone, so I used 450g Bread Flour, 75g SR Flour and 75g Instant Oat Cereal.

Sorry this is not a lot of help to you making the batch smaller

how are your eyes ATM m'dear? xx

Not so good, I'm affraid. :(
I am ok on days off, like today. :D
But work days can be quite painful :(
And just recently, I kept forgetting to buy the night time drops I use, so they are taking their time to recover my absent mindedness :o
    Ta for asking :)

I some of this thread last night.
I believe everyone is entitled to take advantage of cheaper products.
Personally, taking advantage of bargains, or even CFR, means I can afford to have a holiday, weekend away, or night out :)

If you had a nice little lump sum in the bank... would you tell the car salesman, or travel agent, NOT to give you a good deal ?;)

Ok well afraid we are not really joining in with this planner as ex isnt keen on most of the recipes but we were still good and had pizza tonight with some veggies from the garden.
I have noticed that the dough from the freezer is much more manageable than fresh stuff not sure why but makes a lovely meal

Ok no calzone for me tonight, I am tired and a bit fed up this week so have ordered a takeaway. Will do the calzone over the weekendxxxxxxxx
