Horrified though???0

Jeez get over it, take a look through ebay, there are millions of items going for a penny with postage costs of 50 quid. Its a way to stop ebay milking you for listing fees, final value fees and then telling you its obligatory to use paypal as well for 'security reasons' (nothing to do with them charging a percentage there of course)
If I want to buy anything I always factor in the postage costs and I don't even check the postage when it arrives, I have agreed to the cost so can hardly gripe if it costs less.
Next time up the postage and drop the price, anything which stops ebay ripping you off is well worth it.0 -
eBay and Paypal are providing a service and deserve to get paid just as much as you do when selling an item through them.Jeez get over it, take a look through ebay, there are millions of items going for a penny with postage costs of 50 quid. If you feel they are milking you, then you are free not to sell there and to try another listing site. There are more buyers on eBay though, which is why eBay and Paypal charge more.
You won't get something for nothing. And please don't encourage people to rip eBay off without taking responsibility for them getting booted for ripping off their customers."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Please be assured that it was never my intention to rip anyone off or to avoid fees. I actually listed items with a higher start value and never baulked at the listing fees. This was a genuine mistake as I had initially thought it would be a package and not a large letter.
I have since refunded the buyer via paypal.
Another question that I do have though is I just had another buyer message me and say that the item I sold stank of cigarettes. None of us in the house smoke and I had purchased brand new postage bags from ebay 2 weeks ago especially to start selling so I don't know where that came from.
I have offered to refund her if she returns the item and no this wasn't the 99p item
Should I ask her if she just wants to cancel the sale or just go down the refund route
I never realised selling was going to be so awkward :eek:0 -
It's the bags - it happened to me.0

I admire your honesty. I recently had the opposite happen to me - the seller only attached a standard 2nd class stamp when it should have been sent as a large letter. I had to pay another £1.19 to collect it from the Post Office.
The seller had charged me £1.99 for postage as well :mad:0 -
Most don't smell. I'm anosic so can't smell anything. It just happened that a visitor commented on a pack of bags smelling of chemicals, a bit smoky.0

We have red ones, never noticed a smell at all (and I've become quite sensitive to the smell of smoke). Thanks for that, are there any that don't smell or is it just the grey ones that smell
It does seem to be a certain type when we get them through, but I can't put my finger on which as you never know who smokes.
As for the postage, well don't worry that much. It's nice that you've refunded them though, I'm sure they'll appreciate it (it will probably get you better marks than if you'd done it spot on postage in the first place)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.

On the occasions I have refunded an overcharge on postage, I only got a thank you once.
A couple of weeks ago, I refunded a buyer £1.50 for overcharge on postage, and noticed that she haid paid me twice (£9 transaction), so refunded that too and never heard anything from her. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever
