Nobody has said that L-D had gone into liquidation. The only comment wasI suspect they are heading for liquidation, but what really gets me is that they are still trading on the website and still happy to take money for orders they won't be able to fulfill.
Whatever the situation people are tring to fnd a way to get their money back.0 -
NEW OWNERS FOR LIGHTING DIRECT
We are pleased to announce that Lighting Direct is now under new ownership.
The Lyco Group are an established lighting company serving both consumers and businesses with a wide variety of products, both over the internet and direct.
If you’d like to contact us our details are: enquiries@lighting-direct.co.uk.
We look forward to serving you with all of your lighting needs going forward.
Directly from their wesite this morning. I tried phoning their new phone number and you can't actually talk to anyone, they simply have a recorded message saying that they are working through all back orders as quickley as they can and they can't take your call just now as they are busy with other customers.
Bet they're not too busy to take your money though. I don't care if they have been bought over - the name and company is tainted. Who would buy a compny with what must be a substantial number of back orders to fill and a significant number of debts? I still think this is suspect. Has anyone had any joy contacting them?

I left a message with the new owner of lighting-direct stating my order number. They rang me back and explained that they are not obliged to fulfill back orders but would give me 50% off if I wanted to replace my order. However the most important thing they gave me was the details of the liquidator. I was then able to pass this information onto my bank and they are going to re credit my account with the full amount within 48hrs. It was a little painful forms to fill in and you have to send away your invoices and all communications via post but in the end I will get my money back. Don't give up and good luck!0

In reply to the E-mail I sent yesterday, showing a copy of my previous order back in May, I received this (automated) response :-
"Thank you for your email
We are pleased to announce that Lighting Direct is now under new management and has been acquired by Lyco Direct. Lyco are working through all back orders and we will endeavour to clear them as soon as possible, so please bear with us.
Regards
Lighting Direct"
This is all very confusing. If the company has been taken over then they're not in liquidation and should be obliged to fulfil previous orders, surely?0 -

The business, trading name and website of Lighting Direct have been purchased by Lyco Direct Limited; they have no legal obligation to honour any contract of sale entered into before 10th September.0 -
The £4 dormant comapny is indeed now in liquidation. But where is the company with all the trade going through it? The accounts for the dormant company show no sales, purchases nor assets nor liabilities. So where was the trade hidden?0

I am from Estonia and have placed an order in August. Yesterday I got this email:
Thank you for your recent enquiry. We’d like to advise you that on 13th September 2010 the trading name and website of Lighting Direct was purchased by Lyco Direct Limited (“Lyco”), a long established lighting company based in Milton Keynes. Lyco is responsible for the business going forward from this date onwards but are unable to honour any contract of sale that occurred prior to this date. We would ask you to check the payment status of your Lighting Direct order to clarify if it has actually been processed or not. If you find that payment has been taken but you have not received your goods then you may be protected if you paid via credit card - legal protection is offered by the Consumer Credit Act 1974 for single items with a value greater than £100 excluding delivery and so you may be able to claim a refund from your card provider. If you have purchased goods using a debit card there is unfortunately no protection provided and you will be required to submit a claim to the Liquidator. If you would like to contact the Liquidator their details are: David Bavister RSM Tenon 01923 474 401 As a gesture of goodwill towards our newly acquired Lighting Direct customers Lyco would like to offer you 50% off your next order on before 31 December 2010*. To take advantage of this offer please email us your order details and phone number to with the following reference number 109940 and we will call you back to process your order. If you have any queries about unfulfilled orders for which payment has been taken please direct your enquiry to the Liquidator. However, if you have any questions about lighting which we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us. Many thanks Kim Puttick *50% Off Terms and Conditions: All orders must be made via email to and will only be processed over the phone; 50% offer only valid for one single order per customer who have paid for and not received their order; only original customers receiving this offer by email or letter will be eligible to take up the offer; offer is non-transferable; offer closing date is 31 December 2010; offer only valid for items available on the Lighting Direct website; 50% off does not include delivery cost which will be charged at standard rate as shown on the website; offer only valid up to a single order to the value of £500 or less unless agreed in writing by Lighting Direct; Lighting Direct has the right to refuse to fulfil an order if these terms and conditions are not adhered to; customers using this offer agree to abide by these terms and conditions. Lighting Direct Clarke Road Milton Keynes MK1 1ZR Tel: 0844 8044 944
The worst thing is that I have paid with a debit card. I have contacted the liquidator, but he is out of office until 4.10.
If nothing works out with the liquidator any time soon, I will try our local Estonian Customer Protection Department, maybe they will be able to help.
In my order I had items for 6 pounds, which now cost 26 and 11 pounds, which are now 46. No wonder the company went bankrupt. These kind of discounts are rediculous.
If someone places an order with Lighting-Direct under new ownership, please post here about the experience. I am unsure, if I want to use their 50% discount offer.0 -
I kind of think you will be out of luck there.
If you read the letter it says
If you have purchased goods using a debit card there is unfortunately no protection provided and you will be required to submit a claim to the Liquidator.
So you will have to do that. You do not say the size of your order, but creditors like you will be a long way down the food chain and after other creditors (eg banks etc) have been paid.
If there are no assets then there's no money. Its a company with limited liability.

I too payed via Pen Pal for about £90 worth of goods and complained to them. They have now refunded the money to my credit card.0

Received an e-mail from Lighting-Direct.co.uk the other day informing me of:
Final Day of Sale - Ends September 30th
10% off our entire range
Considering this company ripped my mother off for £70, I'd say this was a real slap-in-the-face, whether the company is under new management or not.
Personally, I will never use this company again, and will inform everyone willing to listen, not to use or trust them.
Note: Pay that little bit more, and use well-known brand names like John Lewis, or House of Fraser. They may be harder on the purse or wallet, but at least their customer service is second to none, and you will receive the goods!
