Vodafone HTC Desire OTA update - tricked into installed bloatware
Comments
-
I can understand why this bloatware annoys everyone and i'm surprised that vodafone have actually changed their mind on this.
My friend just bought a htc legend from vodafone and it comes with all of this rubbish including the bookmarks and vodafone 360 alreadly pre installed and yet i've heard no complaints about this.
I've had a very similar experience with t mobile with my nokia 5800 which I bought last year. Originally it came with the unbranded nokia software preinstalled with no t mobile branding and then when I updated it I got the t mobile software and i've had to live with that ever since. Also t mobile haven't released the updated firmware 8 months after it was released by nokia, (still waiting for v40 even though v50 is out now), so my phone is 2 versions behind.
On one hand i'm jealous because i wish t mobile would just leave my firmware and just give me the unbranded latest nokia software, on the other hand I'm glad that people power has worked and atleast vodafone have listened to their customers.
I just wish that networks give up on this and stop putting rubbish on phones0 -
Suppose I could but SE would not tell me anythin other than go to vodafone.
To be honest it had 2 months on the 18 month contract, after SE told me to go to Voda, and Voda told me to go away I though stuff it, manage for 2 months on an old phone and get a new toy when the 18 months was up.
I knew the risks when I modded it...
well for future SE reference

Vodafone Backs Down in Row With Android Users (via Slashdot)“For customers who have downloaded the recent 360 update for Android 2.1, we can confirm that the Android 2.2 update will remove the 360 applications and will leave the homepage and bookmarks on your current settings,” said the operator. “Customers who want to access the 360 services will be able to do so once the Android 2.2 compatible version is available and, in the meantime, can now download apps like 360 People from the Android Marketplace.”0

Froyo now downloaded and updated.
All VF branding removed and 360 apps gone according to users on VF forum.
You can now do a manual download if you're device hasn't picked it up yet.
Menu>Settings>About Phone>System Software software updates>Check Now0 -
I've got the Desire on Vodafone and the Froyo update took 40 minutes to download via wifi and install, a totally painless experience and so far I am impressed with the extra features and improvements I have seen.0

I’ve recently been introduced to strap-on play with my boyfriend… he’s absolutely LOVES it, which I didn’t 100% expect.0
