As said before, the problem is the system, not the individual.
Facts are H association are in fact full of people like me especially in the villages and rural areas. People who went in to them and used the low rent a saving on average of £150 pm and while in them have bettered themselves and 99% will move on when they are ready.
I would also point out although many many council houses were sold of in the 80's many on here could say how did these people afford them? as many believe you should be flat broke to be in what in our area is now H association even with discounts many sold for between 35-45k not cheap if you are supposed to be skint with no savings.
One other story I have is 10 years ago when the council sold all its stock in our area and the H association took over many of the rural and stand alone houses were allocated to family members of people high up in the H association , The other trick they did was buy local properties I know of 6 they were stand alone properties in rural areas they the HA paid a little over what was the norm or the house would need a good bit of internal work, these were then done up given again to high ranking employees families who were not on any list.
3 years in to it all the doda hit the fan and board members were gone but the people remained in the houses as it was less costly to remove the tenant . This is my point I am with in the law and got the home with in the rules and adhere to my contract . You could actually say all who bought there council houses should have been in private rent even with the discount their wages should not have been enough to get a mortgage as were they really needy?.
I think the main point of this story is not many in my position would hand it back until they were ready , some suffer envy, and a very very small percentage are thinking of the needy, !!! on be honest like me and admit it.:D;)0 -

We have a housing benefit (LHA) system to ensure that all can afford to rent privately, so your understanding of social housing seems to be limited.0 -

Errr.. think you've missed something here.... A Mortgage is for those who can't afford to buy.... (cf a "Loan" is for people who can't afford to buy a car/new-tele/holiday..... )
