  • Is the parking ticket a council ticket or a private not? If it's private I don't believe they can do anything, and I don't believe balliffs can arrest you, or that you can even be arrested for unpaid "fines"?

    Hi,

I would have thought that the only people who can arrest you are the police - but bailiffs can take your property - like your car - assuming these are bailiffs & not debt collectors - do you have name of company?

You've left it dreadfully late but look at bailiffadviceonline and they may be more able to help you as thats all they do. There may be a smallish charge but as you are up to a grand already a bit more may well save you a lot.

Claiming powers of arrest is a serious matter.

If they claim to be operating for the court they are lying, the penalty is up to seven years in goal.

Which bailiff company is this ? It would be advisable for anyone dealing with such creatures to record all contact with them.

In general terms, all I can say is "You'd have thought incorrectly". Bailiffs can indeed arrest people. I did it no end of times when I was a bailiff.

In this particular case, the bailiffs will not have an arrest warrant, therefore they can't arrest anyone.

The best advice has already been given IMHO:

    contact bailiffadviceonline (Google them).

We have no connection to them but sincerely believe that's the best website for your situation. It will cost you a small amount to join for advice - but potentially you may save a fortune.

Come back afterwards and tell us how you got on and what bailiffadviceonline say.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks Robert .... very interesting to learn this .... why would the bailiffs NOT have an arrest warrant?
