Is car dealer still liable?

I wonder if anyone could advise please?

I bought a 2nd hand car on July 5th and the air-con has a problem and is blowing hot air. I contacted the dealer where I bought the car and he said air-con is not covered by warranty.

This happened less than a month after purchasing it, is he liable in any way? (sale of goods act?)

Not a happy bunny.

Thanks in advance for any help

Gavin.

What's wrong with it exactly? Does it just need a re-gas? If so, get it re-gassed.
  • The dealer is talking out of his backside.

Can we have some more details on the car? Age, etc?
  • If it was sold as seen, then I don't think you have any recourse. If it was sold with a third party warranty, look through the documentation to see if it's excluded on included in the policy. If not looks like you'll have to stump up the cash to get it repaired.

If it's still within the manufacturers warranty, you might be able to go down that route, but even then it might be exlcuded after a certain time has passed.

    Its a ford puma 2000 x reg.

Not sure what is wrong with it as I am away. The wife said it is blowing hot. It was working fine at purchase, so not sure if it is a regas or temp guage problem. The garage is quite far away so its difficult for her to pop up there to get it checked. Even more so if he's going to charge us for the priveledge. We would be better off taking it local.

    Should he fix it then?

Has she got the temp dial set in the red bit? I don't see how it'll "blow hot" otherwise.

No, she is not that dull....the temp dial has no effect on temp of air.

    Are you for real?

If you put the aircon on, and have the dial set in the blue section, it'll blow cold.

If you put the aircon on (provided the engine is warm), and the dial is in the red section, it'll blow hot.

You can have hot and cold aircon.

a 10 year old car! jog on. Dealer cannot be expected to warrant a 10 year old car to be fault free indefinitely and definitely not such minor parts.

Whilst I think the OP will be lucky to get recourse on such an old car I don't think AirCon repairs are usually 'minor' or cheap.
