£20 to fit a part...
I am presuming you have very good liability insurance then???
If I go into a laptop I charge a minimum of £65, that covers me for any eventuality.
Unless people want to go to PC world that is and pay £170 labour....
At least you would probably get your HDD wiped for free.......To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -

£65 for the part plus £65 for the labour is £130. You told us that you would be making a loss at £135.
Of course I know you didn't mean "running at a loss", but just 'below what you like to charge'.
It's clear that rdpro was referring to a 'private job', though yours is not a ludicrous price if you offer a warranty.0 -
Presario CQ60 (compaq)
Screen is £90 from Analogic (or was the last time I bought one). Its a bit of a faff to change the screen on one of those yourself as it involves removing the top of the laptop base thanks to the unique way the screen is hinged which prevents you getting access to the bottom two screws holidng the bezel in otherwise I'd have said to do it yourself.
There's a video on Youtube here:

If the user paid for the part, I'd charge £20 to fit (I don't like outlaying too much on private work).
You've obviously never done a Presario CQ60 before then. I have and its a good full hour - its not a case of undoing 4 screws for the bezel, unclipping the bezel then undoing the hinges. You've got to take it half to bits. In fact, its not far off what you'd need to do to take the mainboard out.0 -
Either way, I think we can be sure that the OP will not be undertaking the repair.0

me again:o
I have delayed them taking my laptop, I have made a note of all the information I need from the laptop and before I arrange for it to be collected I would really like to wipe my hard drive for my piece of mind. Is there anyone who could advise how to do this?0 -
What make and model of laptop is it? most laptops tend to have the default factory settings saved on a reserved partition of the hard drive so it should be easy to reformat it - usually you reboot and in the early boot up screen keep pressing a key combination like ALT + F10 which takes you to the reformat menu.Shin: a device for finding furniture in the dark.0
