I always make fillings and people have to add there own toppings which they prefer.
Tuna filling - Tuna, white sauce, mixed herbs, chutney, paprika, black pepper, salt mixed together.
Chicken filling - Make Sharwoods korma or what ever curry you like as normal to use as filling
Mince filling - Prep the meat like for bolognaise or lasagne
Sweet - Cook/boil tin of condensed milk for 2 hours for caramel.
Make a Mars bar sauce (250ml of double cream, 1 mars bar cut into pieces microwave until mars bar about 75% desolved stir frequently)
Ice cream and any kind of liquer you like I use Amarula.
How to build the sweet pancake - spread the pancake with caramel put ice cream in middle wrap it up pour over Amarula or Marsbar sauce0 -
My Mum makes this for my dad quite often as a dinner (he's allergic to sugar so always has savoury pancakes on pancake day) :
Stuff approx 3 pancakes with coronation chicken or chicken & onion in white sauce, pop in oven proof dish & sprinkle with grated cheese, bake until the cheese bubbles & are hot through.
I like a weigh****chers filling, f you're dieting the points are only in the ancakes so have one or 2 pancakes & loads of filling :
Rubarb stewed in diet lemonade! Can serve hot ot cold.Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
On Shrove Tuesday we'll be having this recipe which was taken from a Somerfield free magazine ages ago and I've adapted it to my own so this is MY Version:
Cheesy Vegetable Pancake Tubes:
Serves 4, Prep: 25 min Cooking: 10 mins
Pancake mix (make you own or packet. I personally like to add garlic granules and a few dried herbs to my mixture if making savory ones)
400g selection of favourite veg (I use prepacked frozen mixed veg from Asda)
225g Cheese spread (e.g Dairylea)
Some grated cheese for grilling (optional)
1) Make up the pancakes, when cooked, layer with greaseproof paper and keep warm.
2) Boil veg until tender, drain and mix with cheese spread. Allow the cheese to melt into the hot veg.
3) Take a pancake, put a row of the veg/cheese mixture on one side and then roll. Either serve as they are or you can place the rolled pancakes into a ovenproof dish and top with the grated cheese. Put under a hot grill until golden then serve.
I'll probably also do some sweet pancakes with cinnamon for desert, or I might just go the whole hog and have melted chocolate and bananasCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Mmmmmm thank you everyone for your fantastic ideas!
I'll be trying several out tomorrow night (the d.i.y. ones - I don't have enough dining chairs for everyone so people are going to have to take turns cooking their own pancakes - I've got 2 frypans) - the rest will be tried out sometime soon.
P.S. For anyone interested, I've discovered that the difference between sweet and savoury pancakes is apparently in the flour - white flour for sweet and wholemeal for savoury. Not sure I have wholemeal flour so I may not bother with that, actually.0 -
Fried fruit in butter and sugar such as bananas, apples or pears. Place in pancake and fold over. Top with choc sauce, whippy cream or ice cream.I say what I like, I like what I say!0

In Bangkok my wife had the weirdest, but best ever combination. Pancake made with coconut milk, filled with cheese, ham, jam and chilli sauce. I kid you not.Every silver lining has a cloud...

Wholemeal for savoury??? That's a new one on me ... good ole plain flour for pancakes; making them sweet or savoury is alllllll down to what you FILL them with!
If you only have 2 fry pans, have a stack of ready cooked pancakes in the oven - just cook each pancake and layer with a sheet of greaseproof paper and keep the stack warm in a low temp oven. Otherwise the poor so-and-so's who go last in the Q will be STARVING
Have a fun evening~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I need a bit of help!
Tomorrow I am doing an honorary pancake day with some friends (I know its early before anyone mentions it! :rotfl: )
Anyway we are making a bit of a competition of it and the most bizarre but edible (its kids that need to eat them) is going to win!
Does anyone have any suggestions that are a bit out of the ordinary?0
