probably not..to thirsty..still dipreciating to quickly..could buy a german diesel same year for that money......ck0

Only thirsty if your annual mileage is high - if you don't what a nice car for the money !
One of my friends who is retired runs a big Merc around which he loves but only does about 3k a year so he doesn't really notice the money - all relative I believe.
BTW, not electric rear windows -don't worry, you don't sit in the back. Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
I test drove a 3l when they first came out. Quick but poorly made (loose and broken trim - in the demonstrator!) and nothing like the luxury feel of the XJ I had at the time.0

I only do around 5k per year, and have a 2.4 hyundai santa fe so dont think this would be more thirsty, in fact with an auto probabaly less0

Poorly made junk.;)0

Auto may use more fuel, but i tend to not change up economically :-)0

even still 5k pa petrol 2.5v6 likely 25mpg =200galI only do around 5k per year, and have a 2.4 hyundai santa fe so dont think this would be more thirsty, in fact with an auto probabaly less
2.0 diesel german meker likely 40mpg=125gal saving about £400pa
and also check road tax rates, your probably talking an overall saveing of £500pa and then servicing most modern diesels do about 15k between service intervals...but at the end of the day you should buy the car that takes your fancy..ck0 -
Drive the car and see - check for hesitant gearchanges, any strange noises from the gearbox and transfer box. Autobox is claimed to be sealed for life, but a fluid change shouldn't do it any harm.
Electrical gremlins aren't unknown so check everything electrical works.
Check tyres for uneven tyre wear - full lock will allow you to check both edges of the front tyres. Inner edges can wear if the tracking is out.
Unlike German diesel engines this engine is a chain cam which means no expensive cambelt change every 4-5 years.
If I did 5,000 miles a year the few hundred quid extra in fuel a year would be worth it to have a V6 under the bonnet.0 -
How about a Rover 75 v6 of similar vintage? They are good value.0
