Had forgotten about curlicue

I agree with reniannen though, I don't think Caesar is word two either. Not as green as I am cabbage looking0 -
WARNING LONG POST
Ok so I thought I'd just start again from the beginning, using Reniannen's earlier explanation as a guide to start me off, and showing how I got through each stage in the hope that I or one of the more eagle eyed froum members can spot some sort of pattern that may help us to identify the answers to the final part of the riddle. I know this will repeat a lot of what has already been said but I think it is useful to recap it anyway.
Please note there are no spoilers in this post as, mentioned above I think anyone who reads this far already knows as much as anyone else.
so starting with the first line...
DID HENRY GO STARVING WHILE CLEARING BENT GRASS?
For me typing [placenames + "bent grass"] into google didn't work or at least I didnt get any decent hits on the 1st page,
Being 99.9% sure Reniannen's answer was right, I googled [names meaning bent grass] which took me to here http://www.names-meanings.net/names/nature-male
Now I have BENTLEY
Next. instead of trying to find references to Henry or Starving to match Bentley, I did another google search [Place Names +Bentley] scanning down the first page of hits, I noticed the following listed under the 8th hit on the page...30 Mar 2005 ... Hungry Bentley: the common name Bentley always means '(place at) the clearing where bent grass is seen', and the number of places mean a ...
Then googling [hungry Bentley] as Reniannen said, the 7th hit brings up the Wikipedia article about Hungry Bentley which mentions under original ownership according to the Domesday Book Henry de Ferrers.
1st Location = HUNGRY BENTLEY in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
BUY HALL AND YOU'LL SEE BELOW CELLAR YOUR TASK.
Google [Hungry Bentley Hall] again as Reniannen said and the very first hit is a PDF of the floor plan of Bently Hall which clearly states that the Cellar is Below the Drawing Room
Link to next clue DRAWING
MATCH SHE WITH OUT T FIND WHERE HAT HOME DID MAKE,
Taking Reniannens anagram solution MATCH SHE = MATCHSHE - T = MACHSHE = CHESHAM and then linking it to the previous clue, I googled Drawing Chesham and as Reniannen noted this points you to the Drawing Room Art Gallery http://www.the-drawingroom.co.uk/ thought to be the home of Lewis Carol's "Mad Hatter" Roger Crab.
2nd Location = DRAWING ROOM ART GALLERY Chesham, Buckinghamshire
CRUSTACEAN WILL SHOW YOU THE ONE WITH NO STEAK.
Well as we saw above the "Mad Hatter" was named ROGER CRAB a goole search takes you straight ot his Wikipedia article where you find out he was a vegitarian.
Link to next clue = ROGER CRAB
NOW WHERE HE JOINED PHIL YOU REMEMBER YOUR YOUTH,
Again from the Wikipedia article we find that Roger Crab moved to Bethnal Green in 1657 and joined the Philadelphians a google search for Bethnal Green lists the V&A Museum of Childhood as the 4th hit.
3rd Location = V&A MUSEUM OF CHILDHOOD Bethnal Green, Greater London
THE PATTERN FROM INMATES WILL LEAD TO THE TRUTH.
From the hit on Google, I clicked on the V&A Museum of Childhood > About US > History of the Museum which reveals that... Female inmates of Woking Gaol laid the fish scale pattern marble floor
A google search for Woking Gaol brings up Caroline's Miscellany http://carolineld.blogspot.com/2009/03/museum-of-childhood-bethnal-green.html as the first hit.
Reading down the page, we are told that As well as the Bethnal Green floor and work in South Kensington, they also provided a mosaic floor for the crypt of St Paul's Cathedral, which also includes a link http://www.thejoyofshards.co.uk/london/stpauls.shtml this link didnt seem overly helpful to me but did then link to the main website of St. Pauls Cathedral http://www.stpauls.co.uk/ from there I clicked through Cathedral & History > Discover The Crypt to find out more about The Tombs of Wellington and Nelson.
To me neither of these sites seemed helpful except for the fact that the mosaic in St. Pauls surrounds the tombs of Nelson and Wellington.
A google search for [ADMIRAL LORD NELSON + TRUTH] returned some interesting but seemingly useless hits including the truth about his eyepatch, or where he actually died.
However a google search for [DUKE OF WELLINGTON + TRUTH] takes you to the description of his Monument in the central bay of the north aisle of St. Pauls Cathedral http://www.explore-stpauls.net/oct03/textMM/WellingtonMonumentN.htm
WORD TWO YOU MUST FIND AND THEN FLOG THE WRONG WAY.
GO HOMEWARD WITH HOPE AND THAT'S ALL FOR TODAY.In dreams there are no impossibilities0 -
Assuming that I am going in the right direction the next task is to discover the link to the next clue as so far it has been Location > Link > Location > Link > Location.
I think this rules out the Crypt of St. Pauls or indeed the Cathedral itself as that would be a Location rather than a person or thing linking to the next location, however it does leave us with a few directions to travel
It could be either Nelson or Wellington as both tombs are located within the area mosaiced (is that a word) by the inmates from woking, although I feel that wellington has the better link when you go up into the main building and find the statue of truth on his monument.
It could be the person who made the tomb or monument for Nelson/Wellington if indeed that is the right track.
It could be something to do with Sir Christopher Wren who designed St. Pauls Cathedral and is buried there - his epitaph readsLECTOR, SI MONUMENTUM REQUIRIS, CIRCUMSPICE
or
Reader, if you seek his memorial – look around you.
or it could be something completely unrelated. In dreams there are no impossibilities0 -
This month's is so frustrating!! :rotfl: lol!
I feel like I'm going around in circles with it!
I did wonder if Christopher Wren had something to do with it myself but I can't even remember why now apart from him being the designer of St Paul's :rotfl: I didn't get anywhere with that though!
I have to laugh, I was over-complicating the whole line 'NOW WHERE HE JOINED PHIL YOU REMEMBER YOUR YOUTH,' I didn't see it as 'he' meaning Roger Crab, I thought you had to add to the HE to the PHIL and get PHILHE (like Philly) to get the Philadelphians!!!! :rotfl:It's no wonder I don't get very far with these with my brain!!!!0 -
likewise am stumped on the word two - am almost convinced the link is Wellington but not sure how it fits with next clue.In dreams there are no impossibilities0
-
Well I have given up on it for now.Not as green as I am cabbage looking0

I just decided to search "St Paul's Cathedral"+truth and I found this....
http://www.stpauls.co.uk/Learning-Education/St-Pauls-Institute/2008-Programme-Seeking-Truth-Science-Mystery-and-Human-Identity
"Seeking Truth: Science, Mystery and Human Identity took place in St Paul's Cathedral between September 2008 and January 2009. Designed by Christopher Wren, one of the founders of the Royal Society, the building expresses the interconnectedness between science and religion through the symbolism of its architecture and use of technology. The programme is part a series of events that marks the 300th anniversary of the completion of Wren's building."
Now, I have no idea if it's relevant, but what if Mystery is 'word two'????!
Edit: I've just found this http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O127118/truth-and-falsehood-model-for-wellington-monument-truth/
Edit 2: Random I know, and tbh I'm not really sure what it is, but heard of it before and had a thought, could 'flog the wrong way' if it was to mean sell be to do with reverse auction?!
Edit 3: The link on Edit 2 has a tab for a map, and there's a pinpoint thingy on the map, pointing near Uttoxeter which is VERY close to Hungry Bentley!!!!! There's about 11 or 12 miles between the two points!! I can't figure out what the pinpoint is for though as it points to nothing! Maybe where Alfred George Stevens was from?
Edit 4: lol, Nope he was from Dorset! I really have no idea what that is pointing to! It's Staffordshire rather than Derbyshire and from a old map looks like somewhere called Fradswell Heath, maybe Shaw Farm?!
It's got to be something to do with Stevens because on this one http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O83196/architectural-model-architectural-model-for-the-proposed/ the pinpoint is in the same place, but it's also got another name listed! If you click on 'Home' at the top and then randomly click on something that wasn't done by him and it's got a map, the pinpoint is in a different place, it could be where the piece was made??
I just thought with the 'Homeward' part of the clues, that maybe it was a link because it's almost back to where the first clue took us?
Edit 5: Last one, I promise! I'm thinking maybe Uttoxeter Golf Club?? It's close to that pinpoint, but I've no idea how it would fit with the rest of the clues!! But then it could be Ashbourne Golf Club if the 'GO HOMEWARD WITH HOPE AND THAT'S ALL FOR TODAY.' means to go back towards Hungry Bentley because of Hope in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, but again, no idea how the other bit links in!0 -
If the link is Wellington's monument, then perhaps word two is "monument". I've been searching for monument + golf, but once again, I've been getting nowhere. Google throws up something in Scotland, but that link is useless.0

I think I might finally have something, thanks to marg2k8 for sending me her info on google searching!
Using the ~ to search for similar words I googled fish scale ~truth and found that there's a type of fish scale called "true teeth" (source) That would give word two as teeth. I thought it would probably lead to a place and my immediate thought was the River Teith at Callander (I always liked the name as a child because I pictured a river full of teeth!). I can't find any other places called teeth or teith and Callander Golf Club fits perfectly. I'm still slightly unsure though. On their map the 18th hole is called 'home' but I don't know if that's normal and I can't find anything to do with hope. As I said though there was a previous clue where 'with hope' meant nothing.
I think it's worth a shot since it's one entry per day. Unfortunately the site seems to be having problems just now and not logging me in properly. I've sent a message using their contact form.0 -
Could be. As you say, it is one entry per day and I've been having a guess most days when I remember, with random nine letter word golf clubs, as there is nothing to lose.
I can't help but feel though, that had the answer been Callender , then they would have been tempted to have included a clue of calendar somewhere.0
