Well done thingamaBob. I think that you might be getting somewhere. I was looking for anagrams of scale and flog and getting nowhere. I didn't think to try anagrams of scale and sell.
There was another Lascelles family member called William Saunders Sebright Lascelles. He was a member of parliament for East Looe from 1826 - 1830.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Lascelles
A way that this could tie in with "homeward with hope" is that he was succeeded as MP for East Looe by Henry Thomas Hope.

sorry, I realised my error and edited my post, but not before you had spotted it. Doesn't make so much sense now! (Onwards with hope was in the March Treasure Hunt and my brain is scrambled)0

sorry that was my fault!
Lascelles is looking good, well done thingamabob, I'd never have got that!
Frances Anne Lascelles actually married John Thomas Hope, son of Alexander (source and here in Alexander's obituary). I can't really find where his family home was other than Hopetoun House, Craighall or Linlithgow.
ok my plan is to go through every notable person with the surname Hope on wikipedia, see if they lived at a place that matches the letters and if I find one see if I can work it backwards. Wish me luck! :rotfl:
update...no luck, need a plan B! There are a lot of Hopes, many seem to be related to the Hopetoun Hopes0 -
Good luck!!In dreams there are no impossibilities0

sticking with Wellington as I'm still convinced that somehow it is the link, I have found this...
The Truth about Wellington's Boots http://historicalmovies.wordpress.com/2010/02/24/wellingtons-boots/
which contains the wording of a letter that Wellington sent to his shoe maker in 1839 detailing how he wanted the boots making.“Mr Mitchell
I beg that you will make for me two pairs of Boots, of the usual form only four (or the thin of an hand) lines longer in the foot than usual. Send with new false soles that will fit this new size. If needed make them broader. If these boots should suit me I will send another [pair] of galoshes. If I fit them; and [a pair] of shoes of the same size. I beg to have these boots as soon as possible, as I am pained by those which I wear at present.
Your obedient Servant
Wellington.”
there is definately the word two in there not sure how to fit it with flog the wrong way though - need to do some research into the shoe maker I think but running out of meal break right nowIn dreams there are no impossibilities0 -
I'm not convinced by that. Too woolly for my liking.
Going off the subject now and being nosy really, I have been reading through the whole thread again, trying to make sense of it all and I can't help but noticing that you kragen_ironfist and Cmdr_Bond seem to know each other outside of this forum. Also, neither of you two seem to be regulars on the MSE Competitions Forum - only on this thread. Do you mind me asking if you both were interested in Cashhunt before you found this thread and just came accross this thread as a result of your googling? If I'm being too nosy, just tell me, but I was itching to ask :rotfl:
You're obviously both welcome anyway - I think that we all need all the help that we can get.0 -
Sorry kragen_ironfist, I agree with Marg2k8, I think your a bit off track there.
I also noticed you and Cmd_Bond seem to know each other, are you Cashhunt regulars before this comp, only I was just wondering if you've had any luck finding the answers to any of the previous puzzles? Marg2k8 put it very well, we need all the help that we can get0 -

Yes we do know each other, well we should... we're brothers.
This is our first foray into the Cash Hunt, I stumbled across it and pointed Kragen in it's direction.
I don't think either of us are regulars on any MSE forums even though I joined in April 08 and Kragen in Oct 04.
I stumbled on this thread from Google.

I'm liking the new link thingamaBob, I wonder if you might be on the right track there, it seems to fit with previous Cash Hunts and the way their clues seem to work! Good thinking!!
I've found this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henrietta_Georgiana_Marcia_Lascelles_Chatterton and she wrote a work called 'A Plea for Happiness and Hope', I'm not sure if it's of any relevance?0
