Can I get my deposit back?

What is the point of a deposit if it was refundable?
How many times on here do we see this. Let me put it in big letters.
Don't leave a deposit unless you are prepared to finalise the deal
If you are not sure then ask the garage for 24 (or whatever) hours without a deposit. If that is not possible the walk away.
But if you agree a purchase be a person of your word and don't try and hide behind "the law" !!!!!!.
The law is there to protect you, the garage has failed the op in this regard, and I believe he has a 7 day cooling period, should that be disallowed as well because you feel sorry for the garage ?
No matter how you feel about it, if its not in writing you are entitled to your money back, this is a money saving forum, why the hell should someone be advised to not get their money returned because of morals of certain users, trust me garages have no morals.Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -

So what is the point of deposits then?
They are to secure an item and remove it from sale, in my book.
Thats what I thought because people do pull out and the dealer could have sold it to someone else. A non refundable deposit helps to stop people taking the piss and wasting peoples times.0 -
Where does it say that?
The fact is this is a verbal agreement, the terms of which is a deposit paid for a car, now as the deposit agreement didn't specify it being non refundable , they would be in breach of the agreement should they not refund. They don't have a written agreement either, so do they go on whatever terms the garage makes up after the fact ?
If I was in the position of the op I would politely request a refund , and if it was refused go to my card provider and ask for a charge back.Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?

I don't think the card company would initiate the chargeback. For them to do so the other party would have to break their terms of contract and in this case they haven't done so. The only point she would be entitled to a chargeback is if they didn't give her the car, or something went wrong.
She hasn't even specified she paid by card anyway, let alone a credit card.0 -

Hi all, cheers for all the comments. OK here's the crack. I spoke to a lawyer about deposit and he says according to Scots Law (I'm in Bonnie Scotland btw, lol) by saying I wanted the car, agreed a price and a pick-up date and obviously paid a deposit, I entered into an agreement to purchase the car. More frighteningly though, he said they can actually ask me for the balance and force me to buy the car!!! I'm just glad he doesn't have my address, lol. So I won't be phoning him to ask for my deposit back. He hasn't phoned me back btw, which is a good thing really! I hope he's not reading up on the law  I s'pose he could put the £100 towards the £300 repairs he had done (allegedly) and bump up the price of the car for the next buyer! Not to worry, you live 'n learn. Now to get a new boiler...plumbers!!! Grrrr!!!0
