TV licence query

quite true, although it is being reviewed!
however: you must have NO equipment capable of receiving a TV signal (ie no tv) and must watch only by computer non live stuff as you have said.
One of the blokes at work does this, and is constantly harassed by the licensing authorities.
you do not need a licence to own equipment capable of receiving broadcasts, it's what you do with it that counts
you can have as many 'capable' tellys, laptops, pcs etc etc as you like, provided you're not using them to watch or record programmes as they're being broadcast ... LINK to TVLA site
for instance, it's fine to own a telly without a licence if you're only using it for say, DVDs & gaming0 -
Hi. I didn't object to the £12 payment every month. But recently the TV licencing company wrote to "the present occupier" at an address similar to mine. The postman put the item through my door.
I phoned the number, in Bristol I think, and told the operator that the address on the letter does not exist. It was addressed to a flat. I was treated like a fraudster by the operator and had to prove I had a TV licence by then having to find my licence and giving my bank details.
After complaining about the service I received, the BBC said it's a private company that deal with TV Licencing and not them.
The person I spoke with was like a debt collector, very agressive -almost desperate to prove me wrong.
I now grudge the £12 fee if part of it is paying for that little horrors wage.0 -
I'm glad the shotgun licence people don't behave in the same way, not that I have one of those either.
You make a good point there, the BBC are a law unto themselves to do exactly what they wish (bully, harrass, etc). There are no other organisations that say you have to prove (by letting them into your home) you don't use their goods without paying (while using threats & intimidation!). The BBC should sort their rediculous & outdated organisation out so we could choose to have the BBC or not (I reckon most would choose not!). By the way, what happened to the BBC's (fake) detector vans?! :think:Customer Services - what a joke!0 -
Silly question, but if I paid by direct debit if the price increases half way through the period does the price increase that month, or does it only increase on the anniversary of the license?
I know it's not rising in 2011, but just deciding what is best (I paid up front previously).0 -
i decided to ingnore the letters, they started sending red ones (oohh scary!_lol)
i got fed up, tried to enter on website that i dont have a TV, website wasnt working.
Letter said i may have to go court! sod that.
so i called the line, told them i dont have TV. Think he said they may still visit.
This is why i couldnt be bothered telling them, whats the point if they will still visit.
im also getting bailif letters addressed to previous tenant. Saying they will recover goods to get money back!
i called them, told them that person doesnt live here anymore, they tell me to prove it on their website by scanning
my details and tenancy contract and emailing them! i did not do it, im sick of doing things for other companies for their own benefit.
they said they can not break in and recover goods and they can not come in forcefully even when im there.0 -
