So,as part of you sidestepping an issue you know you cannot win, you are now suggesting that the "untruthworthy" and "dishonest" individuals on this site that have seen personal gain could be relied upon to declare all financial gain and donate it to charity? Are you not contradicting yourself here?
I myself have no problem giving a % of what I have gained from this site to charity. Those that know me well know that I support five charities continually on a monthly basis - warchild, cancer research, NSPCC, RSPCA and alzheimers.org.uk - I also give blood every three months, walk an 86 year old womans dog twice a day and will very shortly be donating 2 hours a week in the citizens advice buraeu. All that and I run a business and have a family of my own.
I would be pleased to offer a % of any gain I make to the MSE charity fund, but remember, we are fee's free brokers and get paid on average 0.35% for any mortgage which completes - £350 out of a £100,000 mortgage - there i 12-15 hours work in that, postage costs, costs to our networks and for those that run our own businesses overheads. Such a small amount to earn for the amount of work done and a lifetime of liability for the advice...
I would doubt very much any broker on here has had more than 2-3 enquiries from this site actually go to completion.
I hope this puts you in the picture a bit better, but if you continue to publicly question my integrity and ethics surrounding my valuable contrbution to this site, I will report your posts as abuse to the moderators as it clearly is very personal.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Yes it is, and if you read all of my posts on this thread you will see that, for me anyway, it is the exception as opposed to the rule. Martin himself states that if a poster feels a broker has been particularly helpful in the forum then he has no problem with that poster approaching one of the brokers from the forums.
It is conducted on a much larger scale for the likes of L&C, Moneyquest etc, rather than the very few approaches I have received, the majrity of which I decline anyway due to workload.0 -

I wonder if this would also apply to L&C, Moneyquest, John Charcoal, accountants, the various builders and other tradesmen, who as a result of this site have all gained business.
We actively posting brokers receive a very small number of enquiries and, personally, only accept very few indeed.
It would be interesting to see you inforce this on the likes of L&C who are clearly sometimes inundated with enquiries from this site.0 -
kenshaz, I'm happy if consumers here privately approach regular posters who have declared their professional status. That is, those posting for education, whose education is valued, and who are then approached as a result of their excellent public work. With the private contact initiative taken by the consumer.
Brokers who never post in public and make the first approach privately are a somewhat different case. In this case it's pure business with no public education motive at all, with no benefit to the community.
Perhaps its time to recall why Martin started this discussion:MSE_Martin wrote:1. I want people to know you are mortgage brokers
2. I want to allow you to ensure people don't think this is registered advice.0 -

In comment to recent posts..
* Thanks rating mean nothing ( they are there as a nice way to thank or acknowledge a post but should not be used to imply someone is better than anyone esle ..see the numerous threads on discussion boards that relate to this ... although its not a discussion to be had here as well )
*Martin in his article actually recommended people consider give business to those that give guidance on his boards
* In fact my name was previously mentioned in his article..( along with chap from L&C) . HOWEVER ! I asked for it to me removed for a number of reasons including , to stop the level of enquiries ( mostly self certs ! which I did not take on anyway ) , I thought it unfair given others were posting more often, & make sure anyone who did contact me did so for the right reasons ( not just that I was giving back a % of commission)
* Giving to charity.... on that point, I have never charged a broker fee & anyone who came to me via this site has received a % rebate of my commission ( if they wish to pass this to charity- thats up to them). In 2003 I did suggest to Martin I contribute instead to his charity.. this he declined.
As far as profits to charity.. on the whole I would certainly say posting ( even with the business rec'd) would be loss making venture ( if that what it is) for me.Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Oh.. and anyone want to guess how many brand new mortgage customers I have transacted commission ( or fee) earning mortgage business for off MSE in the 12 months.......

(In addition that that i have done some business for some people I had dealt with before this 12 months period )Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

I agree that the thanks ratings do not have any bearing on what this thread was trying to achieve and tbh something that I do not really look at on a day to day basis. I know you, andy, mm, stan, herbie, regular, dunston and a few more as being regular contributors who bring added value to the site on a regular basis. It just upset me a little how someone who had been on this site for a long time was so quick to try and discredit one of those people for no real good reason.
Martin has not said anything wrong with stating that people should give people business if they are happy with the help they have received. This is what would happen outside of the internet world - people do business with people they trust and lets be honest if any of you had done a dis-service on the small amount of business written, you would have been named and shamed big time on here.
Your approach to how you do/did business with the enquiries on MSE is not in question but I think its good to show that you did give something back for this.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I support charities, but it is not necessary for me to list them as credentials.I believe that is a private matter, and the reason I give is to assist others. To be happy you need to make someone happy.0
