I supposed I originally started posting out of partly wanting to help people and partly out of vanity ( proving how much I knew) ... in those times L&C had the market ( as far as these boards are concerned) stitched up and therefore never expected any business in return.. these days I would only be interested in dealing with a small % of the enquiriers anyway as the board & it's users has greatly changed .
never concluded business with anybody on here personally nor will I. I dont need the business that badly. I share some of those reasons for being on here in terms of wanting to help people and also because I am that sad that I really enjoy talking about mortgages that much.
As I say - if its coming down to who does what on here and whether they should or shouldnt be doing that then its time to say if you cant play fairly then the ball needs taking away until you can all learn to do so..I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I make no secret of the fact (nor have I ever) that I receive occasional enquiries from posters asking for help. If I have the time to deal with them I will, however I do rarely have time these days.
The difference is that it is not an expectation of mine to get those enquiries.
Put it this way, my business would remain completely unaffected if I never received another MSE enquiry again.
I will not accept anyone accusing me of posting my weblink for personal gain, especially as I have never broken any of the forum rules on this or anything else in the time I have been posting here.
In fact I was recently emailed by another broker from this site with a list of approx 6-7 posters who that broker was dealing with, to check that they wern't 'stepping on anyone's toes'. My reply to this email was that I had turned those who had contacted me away due to being too busy to give them proper advice and service. Touting for business? I don't think so.

Neither do I .. in fact my previous addiction to posting was having a negative effect on my day to day business.
I however have done business .. although never unless I was able to add value over someone going direct / to local broker.. and have turned many away.Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Sorry - I didnt mean to make it sound like you did, I was just making a statement of fact about me and my personal situation.
I have never been that bothered about brokers dealing with the odd enquiry if it was obtained through approach or recomendation but Martin is clearly concerned with how his website could be perceived when this happens - whether it be directy or indirectly.
If none of us rely on the business on here then it shouldnt be an issue if Martin was to say that we cannot accept business full stop. Lets make it a hard and fast rule - let consumers know we are here to provide generic info and we are only here because it is something we do in our spare time.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. never thought otherwise .. I've been posting much longer, so my circumstances are obviously different ... but in last year have made myself much lower profile for varoius reasonsAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

That is the key point I think, what perception of the site is being given.
As I posted earlier, and I'm not the only person to have this, I have had PM's from people describing the Mortgage and Housebuying forums as hunting grounds on occasion, one poster PM'ed me saying he felt like their was a flock of vultures circling overhead.
That saddens me really because it detracts from the purpose of the site. It is no surprise that this issue has been raised by Martin, Im just surprised it hasn't come about sooner to be honest. I bet if I received a PM to that effect then you can guarantee the Mods did as well.0 -

Been posting a lot less myself lately too for a couple of reasons. Too busy during the week being the primary one but also getting fed up with the 'can you get me a self cert mortgage etc etc etc' PM's :rotfl:0 -
