well not as much as you posted .. and I've got a very mature client-base. I've always taken a fair days pay for a fair days wage approach... think thats why ML originally included me in one of his articles ... although I asked it to be removed for a number of reasons.Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
MortgageMamma wrote:What exactly are you getting at Andrew? I post an FSA number in the context of conversation (ONCE), and you are implying that I did this for personal gain?
But - I do not link a company website to my profile, but you do, and that IS NOT for personal gain? :rotfl:
Lisa,
When did I imply that you posted an FSA number for personal gain?
Chill out woman for heavens sake. It doesn't all revolve around you. I was merely asking what your current FSA number is? SUrely it's not a state secret?
Actually I don't have my homepage link for personal gain. It's there because there is currently a facility within the profile to put your homepage. So why not? Others do.0 -
Lisa.. think what could be strange is you actually used an number that you were previous linked tod ... instead of say your current OR say 123456
That said the FSA referencing for mortgage brokers is flawed anyway...
as a sole trader I get listed as a firm but not also as an individualAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Im not sure what effect a signature has as I am sure all the information in the post will be the same regardless.
If you are a professional intermediary and have anything about you, you will not be encouraging business nor accepting it through MSE without trying to get them to see somebody local. I dont think anyone of the regular brokers on here tout for business but some do get it from the good work they put in into helping people out.
I feel that it would be a benefit if we had our PM facility removed. If it cant be disussed on a public forum then MSE shouldnt be the place they are looking for help. Just one mans humble opinion but at least it takes away the " you are only on here for personal gain" line and keeps us all transparent in the info we provide. Whiter than white n all that..
edited having read back - seemed a bit sharp.. sorry.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Why would it matter what FSA number I put on? I could have put anything an it would have had not direct relevance or bearing on what I was saying. It was an example.
As for linking brokers own websites into profiles, the majority of you seem to agree there is nothing wrong with this, but why would you list it if it was not for MSE'rs to contact you for advice? There is no need to link a website just to give regulatry details, as has already been demonstrated a company can easily be identified by the FSA register.I am a Mortgage Adviser

A few snide little comments appearing on this thread!
I don't know how much real progress is being made.
Permit me to summarise where I think you (mortgage advisors) are at.
1) You all agree that any advice (generic comments, chit-chat) is given without liability;
2) you are all happy to give your time on here freely and do not expect reward for this;
3) those seeking advice should know that it comes from an expert but that it does so without liability;
4) users should be aware that any PMs they receive from unsolicited users offering professional advice should be reported and taken with a large dose of salt;
5) whereas you are all happy to help on these boards for free, it niggles / annoys / infuriates if others abuse this by PMs or by making comments which are (clearly or subtely) just touting for business.
Maybe you can have a signature which encompasses the above eg:
"I'm a mortgage advisor. All such advisors on MSE have this signature and refrain from giving professional advice and seeking new business. If you are approached please report the abuse."I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly. Forum Ambassadors are not moderators and don't read every post.
