Sony Xperia X10 not charging/carphone warehouse rant
I bought a X10 from carphone warehouse two months ago and it has now stopped charging. When I took it back to my local store they were there usual unhelpful selves. Their default answer is to just send it away to be repaired without even checking basic things like the battery. Last time I did this it took 12 weeks to get my previous phone repaired and when I got it back I had lost all my data and the phone was scratched. What I really want is a new phone or a refund is this possible? What they've sold me is not fit for purpose but I don't know where I stand legally.
Also, I am totally fed up with carphone warehouse. Which mobile phone shop would people recommend as providing good service?
Thanks.

Depends how long you have had the handset for, also, back up your own data, they cannot be responsible for what you have on your phone, handsets usually come with pc suite software, and it does not take long to back/restore.
Have you tried another charger? What mainly concerns me though is you say similar has haqppened with the previous handset.0 -
I've tried lots of different charging methods and it still doesn't work - a trawl of technical forums suggests it is not an uncommon problem.
The problem with a previous phone was completely different. I was just commenting on CPW's appaling customer service and the fact that I face the prospect of being without it for a few months.
I'm just frustrated that I've spent ages setting up this phone so I can run my life/business and now I've got to start again and CPW don't give a sh*t.0 -

I have had handsets from CPW in the past, the current one was from CPW, one of them did develop a fault, CPW did deal with the issue as expected ie minimum statute requirements, if they had 'messed' up for you last time I would not have be using them again.
Surprised to learn that the charging is a common problem on the x10, you could try SE UK or HQ for CPW or trading standards, you did not say how long you have had the handset by the way, that will determine a refund or not.
I had already got a Satio (thinking it was android) but there was something about the x10 when it did arrive that just did not appeal0 -
Had the handset about 3 months.0

They offered you a repair, Which sounds about right.0

2bf they just need to repair it and give you a spare in the meantime. 3 months u waited last time?! why did you go back to them?!
from their point of view, they cant just hand out new fones to everyone that says its faulty.0 -
Ok - thanks for the advice.
I guess I was just annoyed that they didn't try anything like another battery or charger. They were totally disinterested. I've just been on holiday and there are a load of pictures I don't want to lose.
Will see what happens wrt the repair.
As to why I went back to them .... they had the best price at the time and I'd heard pretty bad stories about all the other retailers. This is definitely the last time though  :mad:0 -

What happens when you plug the handset into the PC?
Does the PC recognise the presence handset, also on my handset I have set it so that all the pics are saved to the SD card, the card can be removed and placed in a reader and the data retrieved. :j0 -
CPW say their policy is to try and repair the same fault 3 times before they consider replacing a phone if it is within the 12 month manufacturers warranty.
Is this compliant with trading standards / sale of goods etc?0 -
When you take the phone back to CPW ask if they have a time limit on repairs. A friend of mine recently had a television go wrong which he'd bought from Currys. They told him that if they hadn't repaired and returned it to him within 28 days they would replace it. This seems reasonable and I don't know why more retailers don't do it.If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button
