The destruction of the Middle Classes commences

don't think it's the orientation that's the issue. more the midweek benders (in the drugs and alcohol sense of the word).
Would you ban them from going out in the middle of week?
I know you believe in the concept of social interventionism, but that strikes me as going a bit far even by your standards, ninky, my old Stalinist chum.0 -
if they're "as full of holes as a crocheted jumper" it should be quite easy to rip her posts apart... how come you haven't tried to rip her posts to bits?
I have, where we disagree. Strangely I don't stalk her every post, so it's entirely possible I've failed to comment on some... It's also entirely likely she talks some sense too.
Is that so hard to comprehend?0 -

well i would hope that if they are representing me in a case which could have a major influence on my future they would refrain from staying up so late and taking substances that would be detrimental to their performance in court.
i wouldn't expect to turn up to direct a shoot hungover. and that's just reality telly - not whether or not to deport someone to a totalitarian regime.
the problem is that most of the clients they are representing are pretty powerless to make a fuss. often their english is not great and they don't understand how the system works. there are a tiny handful of dedicated and good legal people working in immigration. the rest are the !!!!!! end of the stick. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Can't argue with that. Immigration lawyers is the outhouse of the legal profession, lower down on the scale than even family lawyers.0 -
Never understood why someone with a degree thinks they should by right, earn more than than someone without. In the end you will earn what you are worth to your employer.
I would have said in the end you earn however little the employer can get away with paying you. The building trade is a good example. Carpenters, brick layers and the like used to be able to make quite a reasonable living. Now the building sites are full of Eastern Europeans (presumably just as good as the locals, otherwise they'd be out on their ear pretty quick) working for minimum wage. Is a bricklayer only "worth" £5.80 or so an hour? They presumably still think they are worth the £15 to £20 an hour they used to earn.
Having a degree is about access, not money. For instance , if you want to be an architect you "need" a degree, because the gate keepers at the door of their professional association say so. Accounting's the same. 90% of accountants (huge generalisation here :-) probably only ever need the skills they got in Accounting 101 (how to prepare a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet) to actually do their jobs.0 -
asylum hearings for OH. barrister was !!!! poor. turned up late looking worst for wear and unprepared. he didn't realise my OH used to work as a bouncer in a club and saw him as a regular there getting completely lashed on week nights.
Sorry to hear that. Did you complain to the Bar Council about inadequate service?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
it's not surprising - the City and Canary Wharf is full of them always in the bars
from hearing the stories that friend that work for these firms tell me it's very incestuous too. people doing anything to get promoted or noticed...
Different people. I'm in a Chambers, not a Firm. I can't get promoted, I'm self-employed....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Nonsense chucky. The type of lawyers you see in the bars in the city, are not the type of barrister who will be doing asylum hearings for ninky's other half.
No city law firm that I know of deals in domestic immigration issues.
Plus they wouldn't get out of bed for £300 an hour . . . . .
You are right. They don't, unless it's for a Russian billionaire!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
A proper QA manager in most organisations would be on around £40-50k a year, often more in London. Presumably, a 'gaming' QA manager is someone who supervises a team of people who are paid to play games. This isn't really 'quality assurance' in the full sense of the phrase.
I'm sure you are right. But it's not minimum wage levels....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I'm ashamed to say I agree. the average standard is lower for both solicitors and barristers in immigration compared to other areas of law,
OTOH, I don't get drunk, hungover and turn up late, and I do read the papers very carefully....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
