asylum hearings for OH. barrister was !!!! poor. turned up late looking worst for wear and unprepared. he didn't realise my OH used to work as a bouncer in a club and saw him as a regular there getting completely lashed on week nights.
from hearing the stories that friend that work for these firms tell me it's very incestuous too. people doing anything to get promoted or noticed...0 -
Nonsense chucky. The type of lawyers you see in the bars in the city, are not the type of barrister who will be doing asylum hearings for ninky's other half.
No city law firm that I know of deals in domestic immigration issues.
Plus they wouldn't get out of bed for £300 an hour . . . . .0 -

Nerves are only struck for a reason.
Care to share your 'success' stories at work?0 -
I do enjoy julie's posts immmensely - always beautifully worded, if as full of holes as a crocheted jumper. But I can forgive her almost anyothing for the sheer effort she puts in.0

no idea of their pay grade - i did say "work for these firms" not just barristers.

Smarta**e :T
I'm not ashamed to admit I slept my way to the top. Usually, with my feet on the desk, the door closed and a tape recording of me being on a Very Important conference call playing for those walking past to hear.
My secretary knows when to come to wake me . . lunches and hometime, usually.0 -

it was a gay club in the west end. for the record. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Presumably, a 'gaming' QA manager is someone who supervises a team of people who are paid to play games. This isn't really 'quality assurance' in the full sense of the phrase.
You couldn't be further from the truth.
Doing QA for a games company is about as dull and boring as doing QA for any other company.
You don't just sit and "play games" all day - that's the job of the play testers and that's a different job role to QA.0 -
Shocking. Lawyers who are gay? They should be disbarred.
My firm would struggle. We have two partners who are transgender.
don't think it's the orientation that's the issue. more the midweek benders (in the drugs and alcohol sense of the word). Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

£15-25 is bottom to middle rate for freelance IT Support.
Someone doing a complex migration project would earn far, far more than that.
Either you have been talking to the wrong people, you have been charging the wrong rate to your clients or your skillset just isn't worth paying top dollar for.
Spot on. It's closer to £100 per hour (assuming a 7 hr day) in my line of IT for contract work.
I would say IT in many ways is more challenging than the medical profession. The human body isnt changing as rapidly as the IT industry is. Re-skill or suffer being left behind. Simples.0
