She is pretty good at predicting the GG's as well, a good catch, if she actually is a women, you never know in here
julieq is very talented at summarising posters.

Thanks for your insight Graham. Would you now please post examples of what you claim I'm doing and how I'm bullish? If you can find one post I've made that suggests I think house prices are going to rise from current levels within 5 years, I'll be very impressed, because I haven't made any, I've recently revised my opinion for a 2 year drop with 5 year subsequent return to current levels with stagnation for 5 years. So how is that bullish exactly?
On the other hand, when I've made predictions I've had them spot on, which is because I have a reasonable insight into what is happening in particular parts of the economy, and enough wit to sew things together holistically rather than extrapolating straight lines down into the abyss. I'm far more interested in working out what happens next based on observations of events and an essentially contrarian viewpoint rather than hoping that something that may be good for particular people happens and cherry picking evidence to support that thesis.
The only reason you bring up Thrugelmir and Ad is because they're both on the pessimistic side of the discussion. Thrugelmir is in my mind a thoughtful poster, though I disagree with someof his conclusions and also find some of his reasoning process suspect - he's caught me being wrong on a couple of occasions. Ad is/was a full on tin foil hatted bear with some interestingly apocalyptic notions about a lot of things, and in general he argues his beliefs passionately but politely.
Whereas you call things rubbish and don't explain which bits are rubbish and why they are rubbish. That's nihilism.

Where is Cleaver?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

I enjoy reading julieq's summaries. They're funny.Mewbie is DEFINITELY Carol, they both EXPLODE in apoplexy at EXACTLY the same moment.
Graham is however unique. No-one else is capable of sustaining a Devonian argument past the point where it actually starts hurting my ribs.Poor Mewbie
Stop bullying him Chucky, it's not fair. Can't be easy to explain how he'll accept anecdotals from someone and then find out they're a pile of total crock.Well Mewbie, how far do you think you redress the balance by calling people silly names? Fine if you want to refute points by rational argument, but you don't, you just spit bile when things go against your belief system.
It's fundamentally disrespectful to come to a site and insult other members of it on the basis they use it to get a free pizza or use it to find the current best buy savings account. It reminds me of the nonsense here when the board was cloaked when people claimed that hiding the board was going to cost the clueless masses tens of thousands because they'd be going for pizza rather than going for STR, which claims incidentally were what brought me here in the first place, I was annoyed by them. I was told off for "talking down" to people at the weekend, well what on earth do you thing that is? And obviously with prices rising, it's just as well people weren't exposed to that advice, it would have cost many a lot more than anyone lost at Iceland Bank.
There's a wonderful passage by Blake, which talks of Angels considering themselves the only wise. So it is with you and the bears, you are so locked up into your personal metaphysics you consider anyone outside your beliefs as heretical and worthy of nothing more than contempt. That's how Chucky is described as a bully, while you're calling people names. You have a major double standard.
I like free pizza. I fly Ryanair. That's normal real life. Back off, chill out, and show a little respect to the other users of this site. Or else go back to HPC where you and a dwindling band of brothers can wind each other into a grotesque frenzy.Graham dear, you are Captain ramble. That's been pointed out to you many times by many people, and I'd also point out that you (for example) joyously explained that I didn't speak English a few threads ago. You can hardly complain when you have a go if someone has a go back. That is part of the cut and thrust of debate. I certainly take more than I dish out.
With Mewbie, it's different. He's having a go in general at other users of this site for using it in the way it was set up to be used, he called people tw@ s just for refuting Carol's assertions yesterday. And then he complains at the lack of rational debate.0 -
I have come over all sentimental since reading all those old posts.
Them was the days:jRetail is the only therapy that works0 -
Well, it's already happening in IT. I expect the current movement of workers from the Indian subcontinent to the West to go into reverse as European and American programmers head to Bangalore to find work.
We white collar and middle class workers didn't seem to worry that much when workers in manufacturing in the West had their jobs exported to the 3rd world in the 1980s and 90s. Now it's happening to us.
I have to admit here - like most of us I suspect - that I never thought the day would come when employers would "turn on" us.
But I guess that was me being naive - again like most of us I suspect...
So - I guess its the "professionals" next - once most of our jobs have gone....:(
.....and..yes...I did think it was wrong when the unskilled jobs started vanishing....and said so at the time...0 -
it amazes me that "ordinary" members of this forum show so much understanding of economic trends and future developments. I cannot believe that "Labour" government did not have anybody expert enough to predict these and do something about these yet they chose not to. they were "labour" only in name. They presided over years of benefit and debt "culture" and lulled us into thinking "things can only get better". No they can't and we really have to rethink all aspects of our future.0

I don't know about destroying the middle class, but would welcome this government standing up to the vested interests of doctors who won't work out of hours, lawyers and barristers charging ever higher fees, outreach counsellors and assorted nobodies who turn up on Radio 4 demanding "resources" for their pet projects, luvvies demanding subsidies for films nobody watches, and anyone else who has never had to cling to a precarious job in the private sector. The gravy train is over; welcome to the real world.Been away for a while.0
