Good Moaning Ladies and Gents :)

    Budgie and Marru,

    Hope you're both feeling better.

    NoyNoy,

Good on ya for your sober day!

Congrats for your windfalls from surveys etc too. Any advice as to where I should look for extra income re surveys would be most appreciated!

I'm with YouGov, and only need 25 more points (so only 1 more survey) for them to pay out a £50 cheque. Am crossing my fingers for a survey soon!

    Any other sites you'd recommmend?

10 days sober here guys. Feels good.

Am still very stressed about my lack of money / trying to get back into work.

However I have taken some positive steps.

Last Friday, I paid my Rent arrears off (£40) and all is back on track with my Rent now.

I also paid my Electric up to date on time too (£11 weekly payment due last Friday - paid last Friday). As I've been late with my bills for an age, this felt good to pay on time.

Finally did a proper food shop yesterday, and went to Aldi for a change. What a cracking store. Bargains galore. I couldn't believe just how cheap Aldi is. Highly recommended!

Spent £38 and have my cupboards and fridge all stocked up now.

Have no money left until a week on Friday now though (at least I can't drink...), and I still have £24 arrears (July and August) to pay Plusnet for my Broadband. I wanted to pay this yesterday, but food took priority..

My flippin' God - awful Money Shop loan debt, of £500, is due to be paid on the 31st August - 2 weeks today, and I'm panicking a bit.

I did have a brainwave though, and applied to the DWP for a 'Budgeting Loan' (interest free). After calling them, it seems that I will definitely be eligible, but only for £220, and not the full £500.

So, I'll probably have to 'roll over' the remaining £280 for another month to buy me some time. If I can pay off a futher £80, it'll cost me £36 to roll over the two cheques (£200) for a month. Yikes..

I just feel so stupid having took this loan out 2 weeks back, and all because I wanted to get drunk..

Booze really is a pain in the a rse.

Am going to continue with my jobhunting today, and try and research some ways of making some cash online.

    Cheers guys,

    Have a great day all.

    Sim x

PS - Forgot to say, I've also applied to the Severn Trent Trust Fund, for help with paying off my Severn Trent Water bill and a couple of other debts too. Sent my application 'Special Delivery' from Post Office last Thursday, and I received my letter of confirmation of receipt from Severn Trent yesterday. They say it'll probably be 8 - 10 weeks before I hear from them. Gulp..

OK - deep breath, here I go!

I think I need the help of this thread. My drinking has increased over a period of several years. My husband and I regularly split a bottle of wine each evening, but we may also have an apperetif (sp) or something before. And in terms of liquid, it doesn't sound like much, but when I've worked it out, I'm probably around 50-60 units a week, which can't be good.

I'm currently under notice of redundancy, and while I'm working out my notice I'm having to deal with a pratt of a boss so my stress levels are high. My sleep patterns are not good. And I admit, I like having a drink (or two or three) to try and help me deal with all that. At the end of the day, I know it doesn't deal with it really though....

I'm not anywhere near the putting vodka on my cornflakes stage, and I think my drinking is perhaps more of a habit than a need. I do like a glass of wine with a home cooked meal! But, I think the time has come to do something about this before it gets (more?) out of hand.

So, I hope I can rely on your support and help as I undertake this journey!

Didn't drink last night, and I know I slept better. My aim at the moment is to not drink Monday to Thursday, but I can't see a point where I won't drink on a weekend. Does anyone else do it this way and does it work?

    Thanks guys!!

    WYNDHAM, WELCOME ABOARD!!
The trouble is with habits its hard to break you need to find your triggers..my is my dh brings me home a bottle to share, so i text him to tell him not to and hes good so he doesn't..unless ive had a bad bad day then he'll come home without and ill send him out again..(i have to stay at home with the babys) although that hasn't happened this week.
Find a yummy drink you like thats non alcholic..i love a treat of hot choc , diet cola, anything you whouldn't normally drink in the evening and see it as your way to relax..i recommend hot choccy as it takes as long to drink that because it needs to cool..plus you can get options if your worried about weight..
you can pledge with me if you like...sees easier when you have a af buddy and a goal to aim too

THIS WEEK I WILL NOT DRINK UNTIL SATURDAY...signed laura..

the other thing to do is look at health implications and the money demotivator if your spending £5 a bottle on wine a night thats an awful lot of money you are literally pouring down the pan , put the £5 in a tin and at the end of the week treat yourself to a take away

Good Morning Wyndham, and welcome to the thread!

Good on ya for recognising that you're drinking more.

Be wary if you're starting to drink to deal with the extra stress. (This is how I started 10 years + ago, and it only got MUCH worse. I'm now in about £25K of debt mainly because of my alcoholism). At least you're aware of this, and you're wanting to nip it inthe bud before it gets worse. This can only be a good thing :T

Sorry to hear about your redundancy and your "prat of a boss". If this is the source of your stress, is it possible to 'deal with your boss' directly, and try and remove the need to drink on it? (I realise that this is easier said than done!)

Congrats for being sober last night.

Your sleep will continue to be much better quality sleep.

If your aim is do cut out the booze in the week, and still drink at weekends, then go for it. This wouldn't work for me, but then I've always been an 'all or nothing' type person with a rather addictive personality. So I decided to cut it out completely.

We are all different though, and you know what you yourself need.

There are quite a few people on this thread who have done / are also aiming for reducing the boozing rather than cutting it out though.

Good Luck to you, and again a big Welcome to you.

    All the best,

    Sim.

    Thanks RA.

Hope your day is going well.

I do need to develop this mindset more. I've always been either -50 or +1000 MPH, and sadly this all or nothing head on my shoulders has always got me into trouble! :rotfl:

    Cheers,

    Sim.

I'm with lightspeed too, and they seem pretty good.

The only trouble is, I usually get too bored half way through the surveys!

Am looking forward to my £50 from YouGov, which I'll be chucking at my Money Shop debt! :o

    Cheers,

  • Decided to join this thread again after a long time away. I found the support and challenge really useful last year and really got to grips with how much I was drinking. Anyway to cut a very long story short I have had a very tough year and my drinking is now back up to unacceptable levels.

Ill keep this short for now as I am off out to lunch so unlikely to be a good first day but if its ok I will leap in again as of tomorrow and start to get this back under control.
