I am going for 30 AF days this month.

One suggestion though is to do the same as I did when I gave up smoking, work out how much money you spend per day on alcohol and for every day AF put that amount away into a jar as you can then watch the amount slowly build up day by day and this should help with your motivation to keep of the booze, if you reach a month then treat yourself to a non alcoholic treat or let it roll over to the next month.

It might also be an idea to post the amounts saved on here and what treats have been bought as inspiration to others.

Myself its just sheer willpower thats keeping me going and the determination to save money get fit and to lose weight, oh I have also preempted my savings for this month and bought myself a new car stereo ;o)))))
  • Hi everyone,

I thought it was about time I returned to the forum as I need some support. My life is seriously carp at the moment.

And I have been getting really drunk at least 4 times a week, which I know doesn't help, but it has been blotting things out for me.

9 weeks ago, my partner ended our marriage. She doesn't love me any more and she did not want to try and work things out. So we are getting a dissolution of our civil partnership (at least I can do that myself for free, as I used to be a matrimonial lawyer) and our house goes on the open market this week. We are still living together as neither of us can afford to live anywhere else while we have the house. I am in the spare room - now renamed "my room" of course.

The marriage breakdown is partly due to my drinking, I have to face that. It isn't all the drink, as our relationship hasn't been brilliant for a good 3 years, but my drinking has certainly been a significant factor and no doubt was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. She won't talk much about it, other than we have grown apart and she doesn't love me any more and I can understand that. She is seeing someone else too, but we don't talk about that either.

So it's been a horrendous 9 weeks of downs (but a few ups, believe it or not) and I have regularly been drinking myself into oblivion.

But I don't want September to be like the last few weeks, so I am resolved to overcome it and start dealing with the pain I am feeling. I know I will find the house sale extremely traumatic and the viewings very difficult and I need to be prepared and I can't be prepared if I am p*ssed/hungover all the time.

When the house sells, I will barely be able to afford to rent a room in a shared house (I am a student nurse) which is a depressing thought and something I haven't come to terms with yet. I am 37 years old and I will be back living in a carppy shared house with no privacy, like I used to when I was 18 - but it was fun at that age. It won't be fun now.

I am hungover today and I was hungover yesterday and Saturday.

It is now September and I don't want to be hungover and feeling awful this month. I want to stay sober. I've got enough awfulness lurking inside me as it is.

Nice to be back here though.

    Hugs,
    Caz

    Time for a joke :D

A group of children were trying very hard to become accustomed to nursery.

The biggest hurdle they faced was that the teacher insisted on NO baby talk! You need to use 'Big People' words,' she was always reminding them.

She asked John what he had done over the weekend?

'I went to visit my Nana'..

No, you went to visit your GRANDMOTHER.

    Use 'Big People' words!'

She then asked Mitchell what he had done

    'I took a ride on a choo-choo'.

She said. 'No, you took a ride on a TRAIN.

You must remember to use 'Big People' words'.

She then asked little Alex what he had done?

'I read a book' he replied.

    That's WONDERFUL!' the teacher said.

    'What book did you read?'

Alex thought real hard about it,

Then puffed out his chest with great pride, and said,

    'Winnie the $h1t'

    Sorry mods :o

Good ideas there diable. I like the idea thatyou're already overdrawn on the wine bank, you'll have to at least pay it back for the stereo! And by then you'll be on a roll!!

That's a good idea, we used to do this ages ago and we had a poster that saved up for charms for her bracelet (sp??). Fay wasn't it you that bought yourself flowers?

I am going to put my AF money towards paying for next years first holiday I've booked, once the confirmation comes through they will send me a bar code thing that I can go to a paypoint to pay on, so will pay it in daily, I can't be trusted with the actual money :rotfl:
Nice to be back here though.

So very pleased you are back in the fold :D

Also so very sorry to hear about you and your partner Caz, nobody can blame you for drinking on that. It must be very tough and will be for a while yet, just remember that drink doesn't change anything that's happening although will make you feel like crap and make it harder to deal with real life problems (I shouldn't really throw stones, but you know what I'm going on about :)). Now, don't go AWOL again :naughty::D

I decided this morning that I was going to become healthier.....had a v. large bag of cheese puffs for brekkie, a Greggs chicken bake for elevenses, a Greggs mexican chicken roll for lunch and now about to embark on a Greggs fresh cream apple turnover, thank god I bought that otherwise I wouldn't have eaten ANY fruit today :p

Given up trying to do the work I'm meant to be doing, everyone keeps stopping me, so just doing what they tell me instead...

    .

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: sounds like my kind of diet :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Cazza sounds like you have been though it of late, you will pull through though, just takes time and things will get better (speaking from experience at having been newly single in my thirties) sending you lots of non dodgy :grouphug: and good luck in your quest for AFness

Had a lovely breakfast with DD and a good shopping trip, bought her some new clothes for college and some bd presents for the oodles of people having bd's this weekend (how inconsiderate can't they spread themselves out a bit?!) and just waiting for DH to bring DS home from his Grandparents now, got a desperate urge for wine as usual on a Wednesday but resisted buying any :T

BHB, do you have any idea of the name of the gun/angling shop along the shop parade by the tattooist near the pier in Yarmouth and whether or not they sell online?

    (no, I don't want a gun :D)

ETA: SCRAP THAT - I've found it - this is the one isn't it?? :j
    EETA: £6.50 for postage

EEETA: Still gotta have it :D

    EEEETA: Bought it :undecided
