Mixed emotions on here this morning.

I find that the thought of how cross I'll be with myself if I break my 'rules' quite motivating plus I know I won't enjoy the headache, the dehydration or looking yuk!

Also the 'missing out' feeling: I always have booze in the house so offies don't call me, it's more the arguing with myself when I've passed a wine bar with everyone (well it seems like that) outside enjoying themselves. What does help is that while most places round here are student bars there's one place that just old soaks go. They're there from late morning every day and they look grey and zombie like. I have a good look at them whenever I pass.

And I am learning to look forward to a reward at the end of the day that isn't booze. Like a nice coffee or soft drink. It all helps.

:T diable and others on AFness or moderation last night.

I'm sure you'll start to build up AF days again very soon ssg. You did so well recently. And sparkles did you just decide on a night off? It's amazing how tolerance drops with AFness.

Not much going on here. Weather is OKish but a bit parky. OH has manflu so if I want to do anything it'll be on my own. Have pork to look forward to later. I'm doing the boneless one which looks identical in ingredients but shorter on time. Do you sieve the vegetables into the gravy jo or eat them? :D

I just decided on a night off and a glass of red with a roast dinner

As soon as I drank one glass I felt it, looked sad and was bright red. Had the 2nd glass and wanted to go to bed

Felt like I used to on a Sunday night after a few drinks - the feeling came back straight away. Recognised I no longer liked this feeling and wanted to sleep it all. Woke up lots.

Feel groggy today and not as full as life as usual - feel like a drank 2 bottles worth of wine instead of 2 glasses

So want to stick at AF for the time being

I don't do the vegtables in that recipe at all, just do separate veg.....ummm might try that on sunday though :D mmmmmmmm pork  not fair I want it!!

Another thing that kept me going yesterday on the AF'ness was what Allen Carr (RIP) said about the fact that people think that a cold alcoholic drink quenches thirst, which in fact it doesn't. Temporarily it does as it contains 80% water but that is short lived as the alcohol causes dehydration which then makes you thirsty again. This is why it's possible (for some) to drink pints after pints of beer in a few hours...but you wouldn't do that with water. He reckons if you get a craving for a drink, drink a pint of water and quench your thirst, then see if you still crave a drink. It was true after drinking that disgusting ribena!

I recognise this, happened to me when I was on holiday. I drank A LOT and before I went to bed I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, how ugly. Puffy face, couldn't look happy without a lot of effort and bright red.

I read somewhere that the 'badger's ar*e' feeling with a hangover isn't so much about dehydration but the astringent effect of alcohol on the mouth. Whatever is the case (probably a bit of both) then I'm confident that plenty of water/fluid helps. It's supposed to stop you feeling hungry too isn't it???

Right feeling a bit better now and positive about jumping back on the wagon, I am not missing out on anything, apart from overspending and feeling rough, and potentially doing silly things.

Onwards and upwards, the rule applies, and that's the end of it.

I might still drink if i go out, with planning, but maybe i won't bother. Cheaper and safer me thinks just to stop but no nights out planned so will cross that bridge when I come to it:)

Have to say I looked up that pork recipe myself after reading so much about it and it looks delish, but i live on my own :rotfl:maybe could half the recipe and use leftovers for sandwiches, i do like pork.....

Glad most people seem good and well this morning.

Sparkles, hope you feel better as the day progresses.

I am looking forward to being AF tonight and hangover free tomorrow morning!

And once I get a couple of days under my belt I will be rocking on......

Lovely day here but looks windy........

I'm sure a smaller joint would be fine, probably only blast it for 20 minutes then leave it on a gas mark 1 or 2 or equiv instead of the 3. I've cooked mine for 9 hours before on a gas mark 1.

But for the time being.....mashed up soft boiled eggs on hot buttered toast is all you need to know  oh jesus it was nice!!

Fay reliably informs me that you can freeze eggs without the shell SSG, so no excuses :D
