I hadn't been measured for years and I knew I was wearing the wrong size bra, digging in straps ,back riding up etc.................. so when my sister was getting married not long ago I found a really nice trouser suit (don't do skirts or dresses) but couldn't get it to lie properly IYKWIM took the plunge and got measured it a really nice underwear shop in the town I live in .As soon as I walked in and asked the lady to measure me she said "you are wearing the wrong size , you do know that " I said that I did and she estimated I was actually a 48e:o:o:eek::eek::o:o.I couldn't believe it but she got some bras for me to try on and yep they fitted beautifully was so shocked about the size but the lady said as she was bigger busted she stocked bras designed for the bigger bust .Bought 2 there and then, took home and tried my suit and top on and it fitted beautifully .so much better than with my poorly fitting bra.

Tea, I'm about your size and wear a 38-40G and I am very broad-shouldered and wide-backed. The best thing is to go and get fitted. Asda now do a nice range of larger sizes in attractive designs at prices which won't make you bankrupt.

No, they measure you in the bra you're already wearing, the same as you should if you measure yourself. In fact the lady I went to last time didn't actually measure me, she just "knew" what size I was!!! Thats why dept. stores are a bit crap, they rely on the tape measure too much IMO.

Do it, its free, its easy and its really worth doing. Let us know how you get on i.e. what size you were wearing and what size you should have been in. If you're feeling uncomfortable in the bra you have on, its very probably wrong for you.

Thanks sofababe. I'm on holiday in Spain for 6 weeks so I'll have to wait a while. But I am uncomfortable and always have been. 42B is too big on cups and bit tight on back. Straps falling down all the time and when I tighten them the bra is more uncomfortable all around.

I have a drawerful of unworn/worn once bras from good stores and specialist shops who have all measured me at 32ff but I find them at times, much too tight. They are sort of ok if I am stood up but the minute I eat a meal or sit down to drive the car or sit on the settee I can hardly breathe ( ok sat in an upright type chair). The underband cuts in and my boobs get pushed up and over the top then wherever I am I undo the back to get some relief. I detested underwires and began to hate the sports bras that I mostly wore.
All my life wearing a bra has been a nightmare, I've tried so many but never found a comfortable one and often have tried every bra in the shop in my size and then bought the best of a bad bunch really out of embarrassment that I have spent so much of the sales persons time all to no avail then in the drawer it goes never to be worn again.
A couple of months ago I tried one from ASDA costing £3 in the sale in a 34f, I thought it better fitting than any other and gave good shape, not brilliant but bearable all day at work.
I then bought another 6 of them. They are underwired - never thought I'd see the day I wore underwires all day!
My other favourites are the vest bras. They seem quite comfortable and I usually wear them all day without too much complaining.

plainsie - I totally agree with sofababe - when you get back go to an independent shop to get properly measured and you will notice a huge difference in comfort and the way your clothes sit.

totally agree with others about the dept store/ M+ S etc. i wasnt sure what to do so i asked her should i take my top off? she said no it was thin enough so then she measured my back and said i was a 36. and that was it! i asked her was she not going to measure my cup size and she said "no the one you have on seems fine, go and try a few bras on and see!" well i could have just done that anyway. plus the one i was wearing didnt fit me i was spilling out of it. waste of time. i prefer to just try bras on now before i buy.

    Thats awful dreambirdie,

You should def try a local independent store. The one I went to were able to tell me my size accurately without any measuring tape. Plus, they spend time to make sure new bras fit perfectly as if you are happy and comfortable they are confident that you will return to them - which I shall.
