Do you REALLY know your bra size?

Another thing to check for is the level of the strap across the back. I hadn't realied that mine was sitting way too high, and this was what was causing me the back ache. Because I thought everything else was right I hadn't paid attention to that. Now I've got one that sits lower on my back and the cups sit much better too, even though I'd thought they were OK before. I also hadn't realised you're meant to lean forward into the cups so they sit properly....scary after wearing them for so long to realise I'd never really been doing it right!
P.S. Pinklipgloss...I got married first time round on my own birthday, if it hadn't been for a bank holiday monday I'd have been divorced on it too...and then last year I got engaged on my birthday. Needed a change of date for this time round lol Happy Birthday for October0 -
I too have had unpleasant experiences at M & S, being told once that they just didn't stock bras in my size and I would need a "specialist" shop. (I was a 38G)
John Lewis has many trained bra fitters and a good range of styles, sizes, colours and brands. All my bras are made by Fantasie because they fit really well and they last quite a long time.
I long for the day when I can wear a balconette bra; only another 3 stone to go now!0 -
The smaller independent shops do seem to be better at fitting than the department stores. A few years ago I was watching something on telly about bra fitting and decided to go to the lady in town to see how far out I was. I took off my t-shirt and u should have seen her face:eek:
She asked me what size I was wearing, I told her 36DD, she shook her head, went off and came back with a 32F and it fitted perfectly!! She said that although I was wearing what the measuring guides said I should wear, I have a narrow back (and obviously rather a large front!:rotfl:) so should go down at least one back size.
I go to her once a year or so then buy most of my bras in Debenhams (she's very expensive:() using the tricks she has shown me to be sure of a proper fit.0 -
M&S think i'm a 42F, but Ann Summers reckon i'm nearer a 42/44H!!!

I can't remember its name - I've texted my mate to ask her and will post when she replies.
It's absolutely nothing to look at - looks kind of like a "granny" shop from the outside which put me off. However, it came highly recommended so I decided to give it a go with no regrets. Highly professional staff and great selection of brands/styles.
Coming from Stirling Train Station direction, you walk right the way up through the Arcade (located opposite McDonalds) , leave the arcade and its the first shop on your right as you come out.
Let me know how you get on,
Lipgloss
I am guessing it is The Personal Touch - they have a place in Stirling and one in Bathgate - I only get my bras from them now and they are fab - when I first went there I was wearing a 36A (not got much!) needed to pick me off the floor when it turned out I was a 34D, they are really knowledgable and agree about different makes and styles - I wear Fantasia with side support and they fit perfect - other styles and makes don't end up fitting as well
also was surprised there are no tape measures all done on sight and trial and error0 -
I'm too scared! I'm about a size 16/18 but seem to have a really wide back so I use guess work at around a 38d. Really wish I had the confidence to get a proper fitting. I feel like I'm going to be a 44 back size or something0

I thought i was a 36B turns out i'm a 32E.
I went to a very old ladies underwear shop and the shop keeper has been fitting bra's for 42 years, its the best fit i have ever had.0 -
I am confident that I am in the right size because having been measured everywhere that offers that service, and having had them all exclaim "ooh no you can't be that size!" when I tell them what I'm wearing...
Somehow, after we've tried on a dozen bras going down a back size here or up a cup size there, by the time we get one that they proclaim fits me...
Guess what?
It's the same bliddy size as the one I came in wearing that they said couldn't possibly be the correct size...!:rotfl:
Having tried most makes, at all price points, and 6 back sizes in 4 cup sizes at my last fittingI know that the bras I currently have fit me about as well as any I've tried and make my bust look about as good as it can.

Caz - that is the one as I remember the woman saying to a customer that they had the bra she wanted in their Bathgate shop and that she would get it from there for her. Thank you! So Mia - its "The Personal Touch" you are looking for!
teabythesea - I highly recommend taking the plunge and getting a proper fitting at an independent shop. I know how you feel - I put it off myself for ages. However I cannot stress enough how much of a difference it makes. My clothes look so much better on me! Once I was getting it done I couldn't believe how silly I had been - the women were super professional and don't make you feel at all uncomfortable.
Messed Up - as others have said I'd def recommend going to a small independent retailer where they will spend time to make sure they get it right."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0
