Vet has agreed to put cat back on diet of old faithful Whiskas so got my money back for the posh food. Im off to have a sandwich and a cuppa and a bit of a lie down as well! Putting my debit card in the freezer to let it cool off, it's been used so much lately its red-hot:rotfl:

Quick question, everyone....I am thinking this month of spearating my grocery money out from my spending money - is this cheating?

Hi Jo, I so count my grocery shopping as spendy but what this challenge has helped me do is be more organised around it so I'm not popping to the shops for something I forgot almost daily which was very often before :(. I'll make a list, do things like freeze milk and I put a fixed amount onto a debit card (for an account I don't use) so I keep a tab of what I'm spending and don't overspend. I still smoke :( so I also get a large packet of tobacco and rizlas and filters out of this and try to make sure I get petrol and Leccy in the same day. I have also got into the habit of leaving purse and cards at home on days I don't have spends planned. I have found that this stops me spending on rubbish stuff if I just need to 'pop in and get some milk' and coming out having spent a tenner

This sounds very organised....which I'm not LOL but this is all stuff I picked up from here, I have been caught out by rizlas and washing powder before and I'm sure I will be caught out by something else before I get properly organised ;).

I don't count days that direct debits and stuff go out though but they mostly come out on the same day with a couple of exceptions so maybe one day I will be brave enough to do that.

Can I claim number 1 today please Spoon, I'm not going out anywhere and plan to get some cleaning done and get stuff ready for whan I'm back at work. Will do the clothes stuff tomorrow or Wednesday after work, I hate all that stuff _pale_

    Happy Birthday Cheapskate_Mate

    Hi Kathy!

Hmmm, I'm not sure what to do. I have become super organised for my shopping in the past 3 months so I know exactly how much I will spend each week so that's not the problem, but I might now consider withdrawing the shopping money out for the whole month (hubby gives his half) and then - in truly OS Money Saving style - I will out the money in a wee jar in the kitchen and take the shopping money out on the days I go shopping. I work with cash anyway, for all my other weekly spends (I have found this really helpful) so that was my logic....hmmmm, not sure!

I think I might also try your idea of leaving my purse at home...

    Jo :)

Just thought I'd check in and say hi! My first NSD challenge for nearly a year!
Yesterday was the Carnaval del Pueblo in South London (did anyone else go? It was awesome!) and so that was most definitely a spend day. And since I ran out of time to go to Tesco yesterday, I have to go today, so 0 out of 2 so far! Oh well, plenty more days left! Haha, I won't be saying that when it's 20 August and I've only done 5 out of 15!

PS Hi Spoon! Thanks for starting the August thread! Sorry if it's in the thread somewhere, but where did the name Spoon come from?

Hi nz (can I call you that?), the carnival sounded great, unfortunately I couldn't go - bit to far to travel as I'm now based in the North West - glad you enjoyed it.
Happy shopping today hope it's not too expensive.

The nickname "spoon" came from one of the peeps on the notice to newcomers thread (Numpty Monkey), I started posting on there last year and he kept seeing my name as "solventspoon", so "spoon" I became and stayed - it's shorter anyway:D

Hi to everyone else and welcome to any newbies who have joined up today.

Will catch up with everyone later, got to go and earn some pennies now as I've been out spending this morning... shhhh... don't tell anyone

    Hi jinty
Glad you got the money back from the vet, the food was clearly disagreeing with pusskins - hope he's on the mend soon now. Poor doglet as well - and poor you with all those spends:(.

Hope everything returns to normal soon in the jinty household.

    Keiss_21 wrote: »
I think some people do this already Jo - I don't, as my main spending tends to happen when I head for the supermarket :o.

Do what suits you best, whatever helps you to spend less!!!

Agree with Keiss, Jo, the aim of this challenge is to help you spend less so if you want to separate your grocery spends off into a separate budget and it helps you, go for it. Like Keiss, my main spending happens at the supermarket and that's what I'm trying to target, so I include it, but a lot of peeps here have a separate budget for groceries and don't include it.

Maybe try it for a month and see whether it helps, if not, go back to including it again?

    Happy thinking
