And some of you people are exactly the reason I have never applied for a BB.
I am 29, I have been ill with M.E. since I was 21, I have developed a variety of other problems through this, and I also have leg problems, Knee problems, back problems and hip problems.
I am constantly in pain, and find it exceptionally difficult and painful to get out of cars in normal parking spaces.
I constantly have dirty looks from sitting at the front of a bus.
The people who are the most rude, offensive, and judging, are the elderly. And boy are they not afraid to share their opinions with you.
Because I look well, therefore I must be well.
I thought I'd read this thread and re consider getting a badge, but all I see is 'my disability is worse than yours' rubbish I get every other day.
You have no room to complain when other people dont give you the time and consideration when you cant even do it yourselfs.
Shameful.
If you think you are entitled to a badge then apply for one and let the medical people be the judge of whether you are fit the criteria. If you do then use it as you are entitled to it.
All the majority of people on this thread are saying is, please don't sit in your car in a BB space if you have no intention of getting out of the car. I cannot see where you might have a problem with that statement as it protects the spaces for those that need them.0 -

The fun of living with a hidden illness and being young. On my few good days I can walk away from the car looking almost healthy, of course nobody sticks around to see me limping back with my 12 year old holding me up because my pelvis has given way.
Go apply for a badge, people will always be judgemental, especially with none visible disabilities. But you shouldn't miss out of the freedom that the badge can bring, it has made a world of difference to me and I'm considering learning to drive now because it will enable me to do small trips and get out of my house.0 -

What a sad post - it makes me feel ashamed to be part of the human race. You are absolutely right in what you say about some of the posters on here being dictatorial and laying down their own bespoke rules about BB parking.
Please, please reconsider your decision about your BB. If you meet the criteria, you are fully entitled to one, and, though it may be hard, try to ignore the people on here who berate others, without any knowledge as to their circumstances.
I'm one of the older generation, and I apologise if their attitude isn't always what it should be. I feel equally annoyed if I see school children sitting in the front seats on buses, but it's never going to be a perfect world alas.
But please don't deprive yourself of something you should get, which would make your life easier, just because there are some posters who think there can never ever be a "grey" situation.

Oh dear, it always seems to come down to this. How on earth can you or anyone else know if the person sitting in their car in a BB space has an intention of getting out or not?
The problem appears to be that someone sitting in their car is perceived as having no intention of getting out, when there could be several other scenarios. Perhaps they'd got out some time ago, and have now returned to the relative comfort of the car to wait for their carer.
Perhaps they'd tried to get out, and after several exhausting attempts, given it up as a bad job, and decided it would be quicker if their carer did the shopping or whatever, and returned ASAP, thereby freeing up the BB space quickly.
Perhaps they'd decided to join the carer in another 5 minutes or so. Nobody knows, and whilst it may be frustrating for BB holders to see someone sitting in their car, they can't possibly know the facts and it's unfair to attempt to make people feel guilty, by saying they're morally wrong.
I wonder if those who state "my disability is worse than yours", have ever been in any of the above positions? And if so, do they demand their carer returns to the car and moves it to a standard parking space immediately?
I'm fed up with the ageist comments on here, but I know they're not directed at me, personally! I dread to think how many other people have read this thread and, because of the dictatorial comments on here, are now of the same opinion as cissimiace.
I just cannot understand why the criticism is levelled by one group of BB holders towards another, when surely their energies should be spent ensuring that the only people parking in BB spaces, are those that have a BB!

...because if you read the posts that is exactly what some people are saying....and it does come back to the same point of not being able to access a bb parking spot yourself if the others are all taken with people 'doing favours' for others or enjoying the better view. Seems quite simple to me!0 -
i have had similar problems when taking my mum shopping (who is blue badge, mobility problems) and have had people shot at me and be very aggressive when i parked up in a disable space. this was quite scary for me, especially since she had only just recieved her bb at this point so hadnt had any experience of it before
also found it difficult when she was breifly in a wheelchair after surgery, when other people would refuse to move slightly to the side so i could get through with the wheelchair - which i was not that great at steering as it was!0 -

Do you not realise what you have said in your post? "not one person had crutches or a scooter! they were walking fine"
Your so judgemental its unbelievable, so bitter and nasty towards other disabled people just because you cannot see they are disabled, you should be ashamed of yourself that you live your life in such a bitter and judgemental way.Are you a medical expert? not even a doctor sat in his car could point out who is disabled or not, so the people you saw were walking fine and were using walking aids or wheelchairs, but you dont know what is actually wrong with them do you? they had a BB they were entitled to park there, so you didnt get a space, well cry me a river, lifes a biatch and your not God and just because you have a BB and you deem your needs greater than disabled people who dont look physically disabled doesnt mean they are in the wrong, its a bust time of year BB spaces are gonna be busy, your not a VIP get in line in the que with the rest of the disabled people and stop spitting your dummy out the pram, that may sound harsh but to be honest you've prob upset so many people on this thread I dont care, you show so much lack of compassion for other people yet expect it from everyone else in return? It doesnt work like that, I never realised disabled people could be so ignorant to other disabled people until I came on this site, its shocking, the one group of people who should understand are infact the most judgemental! I guess some people just have never come to terms with there own misfortune and cant help but take that pent up anger out on others.
Yes its horrible and awful that you are disabled but that doesnt give you the right to decide from your car just by looking at someone whether their disability is worse than yours. Thats what it seems to come to with you and several others on here 'my disability is worse than yours so step aside my needs are more important that yours' maybe that is what is morally wrong?0 -

Mobility is much more than about walking. Or do you really think it's safe for a deafblind (yes, I know they'll have someone with them) crossing a busy park?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
