Blue Badge 'police'

I had a bit of a funnyt moment in supermarket carpark yesterday. I was sitting in my car opposite disabled spaces waiting for DIL to do some shopping. I had taken my glasses off and was sitting staring into space and not seeing things very clearly when I suddenly noticed two young men at car opposite. They were parked in disabled space, I have no idea if they had blue badge. They were looking at me and one suddenly pulled his shirt up and started fiddling with some sort of large dressing on his abdomen. I suddenly thought of this thread and thought "Oh no, they are going to go and say some old bag was glaring at us because we were in disabled space, not all disabilities are obvious so I pulled my shirt up to show her I am disabled."
So if you see someone around 60 "glaring at you" it might be a slightly shortsighted me not particularly aware that you are there. In case you are worried i can see fine when I put my specs on, I was giving my eyes a break.
:rotfl: Totally OT but people think my mum is ignorant until I ask if she had her glasses on when she 'ignored' or looked a bit hard at them!0 -
We have 2 bb in our house I have had one for 10 yrs and DH has had one since becoming ill and wheelchair bound 3 yrs ago. Now I rarely use a wheelchair (partly pride, partly the motability vehicle is too small for 2 chairs, 4 kids, 2 adults, crutches, shopping etc we hope to upgrade to a bigger one next time, at a cost of £4,000!) but do use a stick and on occasion, crutches. It does depend on how I am doing on a particular day. We tend to put both out just in case. Have had funny looks but no one has approached us. A friend of ours, however has been reported countelss times, abused both verbally and physically including one bloke trying to set fire to his badge, for one simple reason. He drives a lamborghini that was specially adapted for him (the only one in the country), he is a self-made milionaire and he has a blue badge. Obviously he doesn't need it having a lambo....Apparently you don't need a blue badge if you drive a supercar, even with a disability. (although he hates being told that Lamborghinis are actually Volkswagens like our Touran! true, VW own Lambo, and Bugatti)
Oh did I mention? He has an artificial foot on his right and a caliper on his left and cannot walk properly without crutches.
On the note about kids staring, last week we were in town and a little lad said to his mum.."Mummy, why is that man in a pushchair? Has he swapped with his little boy?" Our eldest son (7) was holding the back of his chair. We roared with laughter at the comment!0 -
yeah i know how you feel.
my mum is disabled and i take her in my car all the time the looks and questions we get is unbelievable
i think what people need to realise big time is that a disability is not necessarily someone in a wheelchair or with a stick
people can have other problems.:A VK :A0 -

it does not matter what type of car you have, my mum uses my dads bmw convertible. because you have a fancy car does not mean you are not disabled.
we need to stop judging poeple
if the car does not have a badge its a differnt story:A VK :A0 -
I am 48,have a Blue Badge & oh boy, do the old people look offended because someone "young" has a badge.
As a former civil enforcement officer( new term for a traffic warden) i would suggest that you tell people that you have a disabled badge & are legally entitled to park in a disabled bay & if they are offended by that, they ask a traffic warden, civil enforcement officer( who must provide id) or a police officer to inspect your badge( police are the only people allowed to confiscate a disable badge),even then the ruling is that you must not be delayed & a civil enforcement officer is not allowed to wait for you to return to the car.0 -
I'm 25 have a blue badge had a few looks, No one has said anything yet. I am more worried they take it out on the car. scratch it or similar.0

Still get frowns and evil looks and I guess as its getting nearer to Christmas it will get worse and worse as every disabled space is 'up for grabs'.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0

What has it got to do with ANYONE why someone is using a disbaled space - people don't seem to challenge those who park in the person with child spaces when they don't have a child with them.0
