Blue Badge 'police'

The thing that does annoy me, however, is when a young person, usually male, without a blue badge or any obvious disability, screeches into the nearest disabled bay to a supermarket, swiftly gets out of his car, and speedily walks into the store.
I guess its a sweeping accusation to say ALL older people are not understanding. There have been some lovely older people who will hold open doors, let you go in front of them in a queue, offer to help get things from a supermarket shelf etc, but when it comes to disabled parking spaces it usually is the older generation that feel aggrieved - sorry!
Anyway, I am sorry too, if it sounded like it was a dig at the older generation. Most of you are lovely, generous people.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0 -

Just had a trip to supermarket. 2 blue badge bays in use by car wash people, 1 with a skip. 2 leaving the person with the blue badge left sat in the car as they ran- (yes literally) into the shop. I know so many disabilities aren't visible as I'm in that category myself, but I'd love to be able to run half as well as they did.
Oh well! people will be people.
Guess I get most upset by those who mis-use the badge by letting relatives use it etc and / or staying in car. But there again if they get caught for it they risk losing it. Mine is just too precious to me in being able to do things to I couldn't bare pushing any rules. Perhaps I'm obsessive here but rules are rules even if they cant be enforced on private ground. After all if a till at supermarket says 8 items and I have 9 I will not use that till, yes even if that includes a buy 1 get 1 free!0 -

we get the same my son is a T6 para hes only 4. We get evil looks at disabled spaces till I get his chair out the boot and he gets in it. RRRR old people, every time we go anywhere it happens. Once some old folk even asked why I had left to much room behind... err to open the boot to get chair in.0

But if the disability is they cant walk they can stay in a car and the person running into shop for them or for themselves can use a normal space. Anyway doesn't it state when you get a badge it gives guidelines as to how to use it or risk losing it.
Eg
"You must never give your badge to friends or family to allow them to park for free without you, even if they are visiting you.
Do not allow other people to use your badge to do something on your behalf such as shopping or collecting something for you, unless you are travelling with them."
I've noticed a change of wording here on the latest book as it used to say you (blue badge holder) needed to leave and return to car as it was parked and then driven away. But surely its common sense as well as good manners to not block limited spaces if not needed for owner of blue badge.0 -

They always have a good moan if I'm already in a disabled seat when they get on, a couple of elderly people have even asked if they can have the seat. Guess what I said? Yes of course! All you have to do is ask.
I'll tell you what's the worst - when they jog for the bus then limp about and moan the disabled seat is taken. Whatever.
And it is definite ageism that older people think they have more of a right than younger people - disabled or not.
Hold a few doors open and see how often they say thank you. I cannot count the amount of times I have held a door open for a older person and watched them walk past without acknowledging the fact. They seem to believe it's their god given right for having been on the planet longer than anyone else
Conversely middle aged and young people always seem to say thank you.0 -
Before I got my blue badge I was waiting on a bench next to the car park for my mum to come and collect me, next to the bench is a large dip in the otherwise straight road (clearly for drop off, pick up, or emergencies) which has double yellow lines; but someone still thought themselves worthy enough to park there, turn their engine off and a passenger got out and went inside a shop. As I was tutting to myself (and thinking 'damn, where's mum going to go that doesn't cause an obstruction') a warden of some sort came and said to the driver that he couldn't park there, the driver pointed to the badge on the dashboard (which I hadn't seen) and said 'I can park where I like' , the warden clearly explained that if an emergency vehicle were to come it would need to pull in there otherwise the entire parking lot would grind to a stand still... Anyway, my point is that BB owners should exercise some common sense, as although after reading the disabled handbook I believe the driver wasn't doing anything illegal, it was clearly a bad place to park. On the other hand I know that this particular car park, which only has about 8 disabled spaces and is the main place to park in town, rarely has a disabled parking space, which I believe kind of defeats the point of it in the first place.
Unfortunately, things aren't always black and white.
Also, my disability means that I have good days and bad days, but when it is a good day and I want to go in to town I feel like a fraud if I take up a disabled space but don't use my stick, but even on a good day where I can walk on flat surfaces unaided and actually look pretty normal, I still find it hugely difficult and painful to try and manoeuvre out of a car in a normal space without damaging myself or someone elses car. I know I shouldn't feel like a fraud, but I do, and society is to blame. I am looking in to applying for the DLA but I feel very concerned as I have read that most first time claims get rejected, and that would just reinforce those sorts of feelings that I have about my disability.0
