I surprise myself by not knowing these things sometimes!0 -
What I always used to do with baking was to replace the fat with a healthier fat, so replacing marg or butter with sunflower oil, rather than cutting it out altogether. I find that if you reduce the weight quantity by 25 when measuring in mls things tend to turn out fine - so for example 125g butter in a Victoria sponge would become 100ml of oil. I also tend to reduce the sugar quantity by a quarter or more depending on what I think the recipe can take.Love and compassion to all x0

thanks for all tips....my DS (9) is a nightmare with packed lunches, he wont eat school dinners as they dont taste like mine.....:-) although the school has asked not to send crisps and choc they dont enforce it so have daily arguments about not having crisps and choc and sounding like my own mum "just because everyone esle has it doesnt mean you do!" !!!!
I have to rotate what he has although I sometimes let him have choc spread!, but usually + / - cubes of cheese, box of raisins, frozen grapes (end up like little sweets) sometimes t's hob nob, handful of marshmallows....
I really struggle as he doesnt like tuna or any cold meat or pasta/rice...thank goodness for holidays and no thought of packed lunches!!!DFW 1108 Proud to be dealing with my debts:love: 2014Is Going to be the Year...for love...:smileyhea0 -
Twinks hobnobs are great! Not sure about the fat content, sure i read someone had worked out it out but cant find it now.
I send DS in with one every now and then, and mix it with banana loaf or banana and choc cupcakes (we always have leftover bananas)
I usually make a batch and freeze some in bagfs ready for lunch box in the morning.0 -
asda do little boxes of yogurt covered raisins, they are usually with the dried fruit and nuts near the fresh veg section0

Do any of you lovely folks have any good low fat (and pref low sugar also!) recipes for flapjacks and any other treats? trying hard to be good but finding no treats pretty hard going and don't want to be tempted by choccie biccies, lol!
The only flapjack recipes i have are massively naughty with golden syrup, butter etc, so even though i add loads of fruit, seeds etc they're still really bad!!
If anyone knows how to replace fats/sugar in recipes by adding fruit purees instead (eg banana or avocado) can they also post these?
Thanks in advance!!!:D0 -

Sadly, as flapjacks are sugar, syrup, butter and oats, if you remove the fat and sugar, you're left with porridge, which probably isn't what you're after :rotfl: You may find something here, though - low fat flapjackIf anyone knows how to replace fats/sugar in recipes by adding fruit purees instead (eg banana or avocado) can they also post these?
Thanks in advance!!!:D

Sounds delicious, but can't find recipe. I made sugar free mincemeat at Christmas, and have a jar left. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?0 -
Why no fat or low fat??
Kids and everyone needs fats in thier diet, i could go on and on about all the benifit's to good health fats can have.
i can understand watching out for "good or bad" fats, but tbh we even need the saturated fats in our diets but honestly there are much worse things to put in a lunch box than abit of fat. there are reel's of things your never catch me putting in my kids lunch box, jam, white bread, pasta, cake, biscuits, Fruit juice (you know the dilute kind) but fats arn't on the evil list because we need them.
Personally though i make a point of including fat in my kids lunch box's because having fats in there helps with higher brain function keeps that on noggin ticking over, cheese, nuts, olive oil all good in my opinion.
