How do you people get motivated?

I get my kids to nag me
It's about the only way I keep motivated. Flylady helps me with the organisation side of things with housework and cleaning, kids kick my backside if I've said we'll make cookies/brownies/fruit salad/bread rolls etc or if I've said we'll do some planting they make sure I do it by nagging me.
One day I might be more organised...........

Motivation depends on the circumstances. You can be having a lazy day, the phone rings, it's someone wanting to "drop in" and see you in the next hour. Whoosh - bathroom & kitchen freshened up, ironing hidden, cushions, plumped, entire house vacuumed, dishes put away, all in 45 minutes. Next 5 minutes - change of clothes, hair brushed, lipstick. Last 10 minutes, lounging on the sofa with a magazine to give the impression that you are so organised and laid back. Sound familiar?" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Ah lilac_lady, you might have a key there, invite a friend round every day :rotfl: actually I'll be honest it's rare now that I have to do a mad dash of cleaning and tidying because someone is dropping in, since starting with the flylady routines I think I have finally cracked it, it's just when someone is staying over it can be a bit of chaos because the occasional bed is in one of the kids rooms! One day I might be more organised...........

I also sometimes work the reward method. I put all the tasks on separate bits of paper, fold them up and put in a jar. I then choose one and after completion allow myself to read a chapter of my book and so on. I've been known to read a whole novel in one day using that method and also got a clean house too!!!We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

Mics-chick: This sounds so familiar. I am terrible, and have been absorbed by the OS forum, to the extent I have put things off (any excuse :rotfl:). I also love the tips, and yesterday my head was spinning again with all the things I wanted to do.
I keep motivated by thinking, well, if I save something here, that'll be money towards holidays, which is our major family treat, and which I fund. That really does help. I also personally find it helps to know others are clearing: I cleared my wardrobe yesterday because of the declutter thread, and have attacked my spare room today because I know there are others doing it. It helps.
Also, I've decided, from last night, to take one step at a time. Rosie (can't remember full user name, sorry) made a brilliant post somewhere about all the things she now does thanks to OS, and I wanted to do it all. I've printed it and stuck it on the fridge! But then I felt overwhelmed, and decided to begin with just one thing because of the babysteps advice (thanks Viv!)! So I bought my white vinegar today, and have popped a bit in my wash. I feel motivated, because it's exciting to think I may be shedding the conditioner, and hence saving more money. I felt so excited, I wanted to go up to the shoppers today I saw buying fabric conditioner and say 'hey, why don't you try vinegar' :rotfl:.
But it made me feel good to have found something, and I feel very grateful to Rosie, Viv, and others on here for beginning to open my eyes to a new beginning.
Can anyone else remember this thread or know where to find it coz I've had a look but had no luck so far...You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:
