I think another thing that's getting to me is the dog hairs, I have a jack russell x breed so he likes to shed everywhere and they sort of weave themselves into the carpet so I need to brush before hoovering (my hoover may be good for incy wincy but dog hairs are a no no) I think I may start saving for a hoover that is fab at picking up hairs!

The bagless hoovers are best for that, however, if you happen to have kleeneze catalogue through your door (maybe they have a website, not sure) I can recommend the rubber brush for £3.99, its excellent. You have to put abit of elbow grease into it, mind but it does work.

Forgot to say, as its rubber you can also wash it out.

Hi Kate1976, good luck with what you're trying to achieve, I know how hard it is

I am a MASSIVE believer in patting ourselves on the back for ANY achievement, no matter how small and so sometimes I make a list of teeny tiny jobs to be done

I was going away the other weekend to see my girlfriend and so my list read like this
    - get directions
    - print directions
    - wash dishes
    - pack bag
    - make white sauce for lasagne
    - freeze lasagne
    - turn off hot water
    - burn CD to play in car
    - bleach toilets
    - make bed
    - put clothes away
    - hoover living room (so was nice to come back to!)
    - load car
    - do nails

Now individually some of those jobs were TINY!!!!! But I find it a massive psychological boost to be able to put big crossings out on my list of things to do. When you then look down at your list and see everything or most things crossed off you feel effin fabulous - well I do! :D

Beware of making the list a list of EVERYTHING you have to do cos then you'll just scare yourself - so if i was doing bathroom I would make a list that said
    - clean bath
    - clean shower screen
    - clean toilet
    - clean washbasin
    - change towels
    - arrange toiletries
    - shine mirrors
    - hoover floor
    - mop floor

And even though I might do all the jobs in one go it helps me see that hey I have actually done LOTS of things and I am not a bad, lazy person, I just need to acknowledge what I actually do do.

Flylady is right about taking everything in teeny tiny steps. And we have to learn to give ourselves a big pat on the back for doing the smallest thing, anything can be an achievement somedays

    Good luck xxx

Well I'm hot, red and sweaty but the bathroom is now all shiny and sparkly and I also hoovered my landing whilst there, just need to do the hall, stairs and the big rooms now!! Shortie you was right, I do feel more motivated now!:j

Your friends probably killed themselves getting the house perfect for your and other people visiting them, they probably feel the same way as you. There seems to be this competition for women to have perfect houses to show when people come round.

Boys, have messy rooms. I say I will pay extra pocket money if he cleans it. My son's room is tidy just now.

I used to have a white cat and a brown carpet!

I don't mind if it's not perfect, I know it never will be!! but I think you're correct in saying that it seems to be a competition!!

Animal hairs are hell aren't they?! Why did I have to get a mainly white dog whilst having a dark carpet?!

I have a rubber brush, I bought it from wilkinson a while ago, it's been a godsend!!

Am having a quick break, then I have to nip to the shop for my dad and hopefully I'll still have motivation for the hall and stairs when I get back!

    Thanks everyone!

    Kate,

Before I discovered Flylady, Organized Home and this site I used to House Beautiful or something like that and that would usually inspire to go and try to make the house look a little like the houses in the mag. Alternatively if you have Sky, have a look for Anthea or Kim and Aggie or another one called Cleanfreaks (something like that).

    Good luck!!!

Try and think of it this way...
Once the clutter is gone, there's no-where for the spiders to hide and they'll probably go away - or else you'll find them and be able to suck them up the hoover even quicker!!

Hate spiders too!! Can't stand it when they run and hide and you can't get them but you know they're there!! OH is super tidy and makes me be tidy too so now they can't find so many places to hide and i can make sure he gets em quickly!!! :)

Oh yeah Anthea! As nitpicking as she is sometimes every time I watch that programme I still have the urge to get up off the sofa and tidy up. If anyone has Telewest the programme is available on Teleport replay every day until the next one is shown.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I love watching how clean is your house, makes me feel better about the state of my house!!

Good thinking newlywed, I will be able to get the spiders more quickly without them scuttling away into their cluttered hideaway! Just need to pluck up the courage to get rid of it first!!:rotfl:

Now the question is do I just bin the clutter or make piles for recycling, selling and charity? Or will that just make it more work?!

Thanks again for your tips and motivation! You're all stars! :T

Well, if you think you can get a decent price for it then keep it to ebay it.

Personally, I find if I put a pile for charity it sits there for months and doesn't help the clutter!! So if you are going to do the charity drop then you have to set yourself a date to actually do it - No excuses - Or else do it that same day.

I kept piles of stuff for a car boot sale that never happened. Took loads down the charity shop. Had loads more to take that just sat there for ages. :o
