    Morning,

Yeah for chicks:)! And good that your salary will be more than you were expected, can you get any tax credit/income support as well?
Not sure about the bike stuff in the pound shop, as you know I've been commuting by bike for about 7 years now and the only thing I think is worth to buy there is the bike cover, the rest is really bad quality. Good for trying them out but if you get serious about cycling than you need to get proper locks/bike seats/etc. I can send you plenty of websites where you can order cheapish but still really good quality products. And don't forget padded cycling trousers, they are brilliant, I love mine to bits-and get some HI-viz jackets (you can get them quite cheap in sportsdirect, but make sure they are breathable and waterproof). Same as for waterproof trousers, I hate the tube so invested in them (£5 in Sportsdirect) and they really do the job. Oh, I can just talk and talk, sorry Missy:). Better get going, off to the gym than to Ikea (need to order new kitchen in new house, yeah!).

I have thought of some names, but the chickens are all exactly the same so I think I might struggle to tell them apart!!! We will see though. Really do need to get my a*se out of bed but it's so warm under the duvet. Atleast it's not raining, which would have been rather rubbish!

    Hi missymoo

Not sure how I found your old thread but have followed you here now !!

I have loads of chickens so if you need any hints and tips let me know.

    What age are they?

Have you got all the same breed? Is that why you can't tell them apart?

We buy leg rings for chickens so when we buy a batch in we ring them in the same colour so we know their origin and how long we have had them. (Think we got them from Ascott or Flyte so Fancy)

We have mainly brown laying hens but also have some mixes which we have bred ourselves. The multi coloured ones have names but the brown ones have rings only.

    Have fun with them.

As an aside we also have turkeys, geese and ducks!!

    Ok well I have chickens!!

EE, ooh thank you for that, I have 6 black rocks, that at this very moment in time, wont come out of the carrier they came in, it's like a dog carrier so its very difficult to lift them out, and when I tried they got really stressed and pecked me!! So I have left them in the carrier in the hen run with the door open in the hope that they will venture out.

Hey kavics oooh get you and your new kitchen!

At the moment I will only be push biking ten minutes or so each way so don't need all the super duper stuff, but I think I will definitely need some water proof trousers, helmet and hi vis stuff for the winter.

Think I have sorted it, have worked out a way to take the lid off the carrier and have done that and just left the bottom half with them in in the run, I'm sure they'll get used to it in a bit.

Going to have a nice cuppa and check on them later.

I've got the student card from OU, it's good though not the best. THey don't give you money off from travel as you're not a full time student even if you take 2 moduls on. But getting discount on tickets is great, my local debenhams also accepts it. Hope chicks are out by now.

    Ok chicken up date.

One chicken has ventured out, which hopefully means the rest will follow!!

Gosh how stressful, I think I need another cuppa!
  • Love it Missy, should you call that one something significant ? Like Buzz, or Columbus ?

It must be exciting stuff though, watching them check it all out, better than Eastenders...!

    Hi missymoo

I assume they have a hut for night times - tonight you should put them in the hut (if they won't go willingly) and lock it all up and they should get used to where their home is for the night without you having to pick them up every night!!

If they peck you will have to put gloves on :rotfl:

We took some 15 week chickens up to our field the other night, put them straight in their hut, let them out in the morning and that night they put themselves away - I was well pleased!! :T
